MO Class 3 District 9: Kewpies Upend Bruins, Jays Advance

COLUMBIA Missourian — All Hickman wanted was a rematch. On Tuesday, the fourth-seeded Kewpies got one and took advantage, hanging on to beat top-seeded Rock Bridge 1-0 in the Class 3, District 9 semifinals at Hickman. The Kewpies had lost to the Bruins 2-1 on Sept. 30.

Tuesday’s winner came when HIckman senior George Plakorus scored from a free kick in the eighth minute on a botched cross to fellow senior, Matt Baker.

Hickman beat Sedalia Smith-Cotton 7-0 on Saturday in a play-in game to reach the semifinal against the Bruins.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was a victory.
From the Jeff City News Tribune – “It may have been as poor a performance as we’ve had in a district game in my 20 years of coaching,” Jays coach Eddie Horn said after Jefferson City edged Troy 1-0 in Tuesday night’s semifinals of the Class 3 District 9 Soccer Tournament at Hickman High School.

With the win, the Jays (11-5-3) advance to Thursday night’s championship against Hickman. The fourth-seeded Kewpies upset top-seeded Rock Bridge 1-0 in the first semifinal Tuesday.
