MHS Cubs Fall To Marshfield In District Soccer

Playing without their top three scorers, the Monett Cubs soccer team was defeated 3-0 by the Marshfield Bluejays in the first round of the Class 2A District 5 tournament at Marshfield on Saturday morning. Monett finished the season with a 10-8 record.

“We played hard but we were short-handed on offense,” said Monett Coach Jeremy Wilson. “One player was absent due to a family obligation. Another was suspended for disciplinary reasons and a third was academically ineligible. “It’s tough to compete in this situation,” said Wilson. “We were asking kids to do things they were not used to doing.”

#2 Cassville Wildcats – 6
# 7 Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 2

#1 Bolivar Liberators – 3 (PKs)
#8 West Plains Zizzers – 2
What a game this was. I really can’t do justice to the ebb and flow, as the Liberators took a 2-0 lead on goals in the 22nd and 45th minute from Bradley Stillwagon, only to see the Zizzer’s battle back with a pair of goals in the 49th and 50th minutes. The first was direct from a corner kick by Justyn Biggers (see it below) and the second by senior Klay Norman, who led by example in the game, when he received a pass in close quarters in the Liberator’s end, held off two defenders before turning 180 degrees to get into the box and put his shot to the far post past a diving keeper.

West Plains ties the game 2-2 via a corner kick that goes straight in, by ?

Here’s the seeding for the tournament. I anticipate being onsite for the majority of the day. I apologize in advance to the Cub’s and Blue Jays since that’s the game I’ll least likely see, too early for me.
