St Joseph’s Pumas – 1
Nationally seventh-ranked Drury rallied from an early deficit to beat Saint Joseph’s 2-1 Friday night and move closer to its first Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title. Saint Joseph’s (8-7-2, 5-6-2) struck first with a goal from Kevin Amaizo in the 31st minute, and it appeared the Panthers would trail at halftime before senior Steve Wilczewski scored an unassisted goal off a breakaway, his 12th of the season and 30th of his career, with just over two minutes left before the break to tie it at 1-1. Drury then took the lead for good when junior Micah Whorton came up with his 12th goal of the season just 3:49 into the second half, and the Panther defense took it from there.
The Panthers improved to 15-1 overall and 12-1 in GLVC play entering Sunday’s regular season league finale at Wisconsin-Parkside. Drury maintains a one-game lead over second-place Northern Kentucky, with the Panthers needing a win or tie to secure the top seed, and home-field advantage throughout the GLVC Tournament which begins Nov. 1.
Missouri S&T Miners – 1
Indianapolis Greyhounds – 0
Peter Vaccaro scored on a point blank shot at the 65:38 mark to break a scoreless tie and give S&T its seventh win in GLVC play. The goal came off an assist from Nicolas Solano, who sent a ball into the box to Vaccaro and he put it past Greyhound goalkeeper Justin Roberts.
Friday’s win keeps the Miners in sixth place in the league standings with one game remaining, but they are still in contention for a first round home game in the GLVC Tournament pending the results of Sunday’s play. Wisconsin-Parkside, the team currently in fourth place, hosts league leader Drury and Bellarmine, who is in fifth, hosts Southern Indiana.
