Northern Kentucky Norse – 2
Drury Panthers – 1

From the NKU website: Braden Bishop and Steven Beattie tallied goals as NKU improved to 12-2-1 overall, 9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked 12th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll and prevented No. 3 Drury (13-1 overall, 10-1 GLVC) from clinching the top seed for the upcoming GLVC Tournament.

Bishop converted a penalty kick just 2:23 into the contest to give NKU a 1-0 lead. The Norse held that advantage until the 77:15 mark, when Drury tied it at 1-all on Steve Wilczewski’s goal. Beattie answered quickly by scoring a goal off a Bishop assist from 15 yards out at the 80:21 mark to give NKU a 2-1 lead. It marked the 46th goal of Beattie’s career and allowed him to tie Chad Scott for the school record.

The Panthers, who could have clinched the GLVC regular-season title and overall No. 1 seed for the league tournament with a victory, outshot the Norse 17-10, including 6-2 on goal.
Drury, who have already clinched a GLVC post-season spot with a 10-0 Conference record, put their #3 national ranking on the line today against Northern Kentucky, their closest challenger at 8-2 in the Conference and the #12 ranked team.

The Norse have been looking forward to this game for awhile, as chronicled in the Cinncinnati Examiner, looking at forward Steven Beattie who is nearing a career scoring record. Speaking of which, Beattie noted

“My dream goal will be to rip about a 30-foot blast to win the Drury game,” said Beattie.

The NKU Northerner (campus paper) also looked at today’s game, noting

Despite such an experienced group and the undefeated record, Drury has yet to face a team that can match up with them on the turf. NKU will be the team that will challenge the Panthers for the top spot in the conference.
