Thursday’s Report

Parker Maher, Joplin challenged by ? OzarkJoplin Eagles – 5
Ozark Tigers – 0
The Tigers opened strong Thursday evening, pushing down into the visitor’s end and creating opportunities, even putting a ball off of the crossbar about 10 minutes into the game (Ryan?) Unfortunately for the hosts, the Eagle’s had already taken a 1-0 lead 2 minutes earlier when so. Parker Maher buried a ball from Geovanni Lara on a nice counterattack. Slowly but surely the Eagle’s began to establish the rhythm of the game, getting a second goal in the 25th from Lucas Kemper, off of a Danny McDonald assist.

The Tiger’s responded to the challenge by coming out and earning a free kick just outside the box to open the 2nd but once again, the Eagle’s broke the Tiger’s down with a counter attack, this time Maher (think Bill Maher, from HBO when pronouncing Parker’s last name, and trust me you need to learn it) making a 40 yard run down the middle of the Tiger’s defense before burying his shot as he entered the box. The Eagles completed the scoring with Danny McDonald finishing off a sitter from Joe Rice’s hard work (video) in the 60th and finally Jordan Wood, from Maher (try it again) in the 64th (video). When asked prior to the game how the Eagle’s were getting their results this season, Coach Ed Miller’s response was a simple “we are a pretty good team”, which was born out on the turf at Ozark Thursday as they dominated another pretty good team at Ozark.

Greenwood jumped out to a very early 2-0 lead, scoring goals in the 4th, and 23rd minutes of the first half. The second half saw the Cubs respond, pushing Springfield Greenwood early and often, but were unable to score on the frigid evening. Greenwood tacked on a third goal in the 20th minute of the second half to increase their advantage. Greenwood finished the scoring with two goals in the final ten minutes of the game. “Springfield Greenwood is a quality opponent. I know the team wishes we could have played this game at full strength.” said Monett Coach Jeremy Wilson. Greenwood’s goals were scored by Jordan Johnston, Chris Aiken (2), Cory McCoy, and Stuart Beezley.
