Friday GLVC Soccer Report

Kentucky Wesleyan – 0
No. 25 Drury put a goal on the board in each half for a 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at Kentucky Wesleyan in women’s college soccer action on Friday. Senior Sarah Goodman scored off a Christie Stewart assist in the 29th minute to put Drury up 1-0 by halftime. The Panthers then padded the lead when Stewart scored off an assist from Katie Pritchard ath the 57:40 mark.

Junior keeper Jessie Sanderson (Jeff City) posted her ninth shutout of the season and 29th of her career, coming up with five saves in the victory as Drury outshot the host Panthers 9-6.

Bellarmine -2
Rockhurst Hawks - 1
Bellarmine scored in the second overtime period to edge the Rockhurst Hawks 2-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Friday in Louisville, Ky. The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal from Elle Holtmann (Catholic 2007) at the 37:42 mark. Christie Moreland assisted on the goal. The Knights tied it at 1-1 just 26 seconds later with a 20-yard shot.

The Hawks, 6-5-1 and 5-3-1 in the GLVC, play at Northern Kentucky on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Southern Indiana – 1
Missouri S&T Miners – 0
The Lady Miners had a golden opportunity in the 42nd minute off a corner kick but Rachel Moore’s (Rolla 2006) attempt was turned away by Stephanie Bodamer. Southern Indiana was able to take advantage on rush the other way when Susan Ellspearman scored an unassisted goal just 0:19 later then they nearly made it 2-0 almost two minutes later but Swift made the save keeping it 1-0 heading into the intermission.

Missouri S&T’s shot at the Great Lakes Valley Conference playoffs took a hit in the loss at Southern Indiana. The Lady Miners were a half game behind the Screaming Eagles for the eighth and final spot entering play on Friday evening.

    Men’s Soccer

Drury Panthers – 2
Kentucky Wesleyan – 1
Drury, ranked sixth nationally, used two goals from senior Steve Wilczewski (Glendale 2006) in a five-minute span early in the second half to rally past Kentucky Wesleyan 2-1 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s soccer match on Friday. Dustin Davis scored off a corner kick (A.J. Roberto assist) in the 31st minute to give KWC a 1-0 advantage that stood through halftime, and represented the first time Drury has trailed in a match al season.

But the Panthers responded quickly when Wilczewski, a Springfield Glendale product, scored off a rare assist from keeper Stephen Conner (Glendale 2007) at 69:28 to tie the match, then took the lead when Wilczewski added an unassisted goal at 74:07, representing his ninth goal of the season and 27th of his career. Drury outshot KWC by an 18-6 advantage in a match that saw Wesleyan pile up 21 fouls and five yellow cards.

Missouri S&T Miners – 2
Southern Indiana – 0
Missouri S&T picked up a critical road win Friday night to help solidify its spot among the top eight teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference by knocking off Southern Indiana 2-0. S&T got both of its goals in the first half, getting one from Andy Held with just under six minutes gone and the second from Peter Vaccaro in the latter stages of the first half. From there, the Miner defense took care of the rest as they posted their third victory in succession and first shutout in nearly a month.

Bellarmine – 2
Rockhurst Hawks – 1
Haggai Leboo scored his seventh goal of the season to put the Hawks in front 1-0 at the 5:49 mark. Bellarmine tied the score early in the second half and scored the winning goal on a penalty kick at the 57:57 mark. Rockhurst finished with 11 shots. Leboo and Kyle Samuelson led the Hawks with three shots apiece. RU goalkeeper Kyle Clawson made nine saves.

The Hawks, 8-5 and 6-3 in the GLVC, play at Northern Kentucky on Sunday at noon EST.
