Kickapoo Shootout Opens Today

Eureka fans at Kickapoo Shootour

The tournament opens today and the Chief’s Booster Club will be out in full-force today working to ensure the fields are prepared to handle the games. I’ll keep you up-to-date as the day progresses. Note that any changes in the schedule will be posted below, along with the results as they come in.

    Gold Bracket

Lees Summit West – 2
Waynesville Tigers – 1

Columbia Rockbridge Bruins – 1
Nixa Eagles – 0
The Bruins took advantage of an opening as a shot on frame was parried by the keeper but only attackers followed the play and they Bruin’s made the Eagles pay for the defensive lapse.

Ozark Tigers, Jimmy Oslica (2012) rises over Josh Gross (2011)Ozark Tigers - 2 (1st OT)
Pattonville Pirates – 1
The Tigers showed resilience in coming back late this evening, getting the tying goal from senior Skyler Foster as his run into the right side of the box finished with his well-placed shot to the far post in the 70th minute. The game winner was scored by senior Zach Moore, a young man with intelligence and skill who makes the Energizer bunny look like a slacker. Going forward consistently, he was able to finally break through the Pirate’s defense and make a run into the right side of the box. His initial shot was parried by the keeper but the rebound fell to Moore and he buried the second chance 8 minutes into the 1st OT period.

They face Lee’s Summit West at 10am tomorrow for the chance to play the Eureka/Rock Bridge winner in the Gold Division championship. That’s Tiger sophomore Jimmy Oslica rising over junior Josh Gross at right.

Eureka Wildcats – 2
Parkview Vikings – 1
The Vikings took a one goal lead to the locker rooms at halftime, as Jared Moore converted the penalty kick opportunity. It was the Wildcats who stormed the pitch and pillaged the Vikings in the 2nd half however, winning 50/50 balls and sending attackers into the penalty area throughout the half. They were rewarded when senior captain Carlos Espinosa found time and space in the right side of the box, turning on the ball and sending it to the far post in the 53rd minute to tie the game. The game winner came in the 62nd minute when senior Devon Moser was sent into the six yard box where he deftly lifted the ball over the diving goalkeeper.

Eureka faces Columbia Rock Bridge at 10:00 am at Kickapoo. Parkview will travel South to Ozark where they will play District foe Nixa in the consolation bracket at 10:00 am on the Ozark Tigers artificial surface.

    Brown Bracket

CANCELED – Catholic vs Vianney

DSC_9539Kickapoo Chiefs – 6
Kearney – 0
The Chiefs got goals from three players in this early game played at Harrison Stadium. Sophomore Devon Selsor opened and closed the scoring, ending with 3 goals on the day. Senior Skyler Russell scored a pair and senior Ian Kennedy had one goal.

That’s Devon preparing to shoot in the photo at left, after getting between the defense and into the box. I forget if that was his 2nd goal or one that went over the crossbar.

Glendale Falcons – 2
Liberty Blue Jays – 1
The Falcon’s showed excellent form this evening in holding off the #15 ranked Jays. With Chris Maddox and Alec Martinez leading the way from midfield, the Falcon’s were able to maintain possession and take an early 2-0 lead before giving up one late in the half. They continued to control play through most of the second half but were unable to extend their lead as the Jay’s fought back strongly in the final 15 minutes. A pair of reaction saves by junior backup keeper Reece Conner, playing due to the illness of senior Jordan Pitts, kept the Jay’s off the scoring sheet for the Falcon’s win. I interviewed Reece following the game. Goals were scored by Austin Hart and Brandon Baum for Glendale.

The Falcon’s move into the winner’s bracket and will face Springfield Catholic at 11:30 am tomorrow. Kickapoo will face Blue Springs at the same time.

Blue Springs Wildcats – 1
Francis Howell Vikings – 0
The Blue Springs Wildcats got a goal in the first half and made it stand up against the Vikings.

The Vikings will face will face Kearney in the 8:30 am consolation match at Kickapoo while Liberty will face Sedalia Smith-Cotton who arrive in the morning to take the place of the Vianney Golden Griffon’s who chose not to attend the weekends events.

UPDATE (1:40 pm) Kickapoo vs Kearney moved to 3:30 pm at Harrison Stadium while Parkview vs Eureka moved to 5:30 pm at Kickapoo. Catholic game canceled and they move to the winner’s bracket against Glendale/Liberty winner tomorrow while Sedalia Smith-Cotton joins the tournament and will play in the Loser’s bracket against the Glendale/Liberty loser at 8:30 am. Rumor of a helicopter visiting Kickapoo to assist in drying the fields is apparently true!

Comments

  1. 99% sure that The PHS vs. Eureka game was moved to Cooper 3.

  2. My previous update is now out of date. Ole’s 1:40 update is now the most recent.

Glendale is weak this season. They wont have much of a problem with Catholic, but they wont do much past the regular season. Its unfortunate because they might possibly have more talent than they’ve ever had..but their persistent whining and obnoxious self serving attitudes (thanks mom and dad) will leave them wanting when they’re overpowered by teams who are willing to work hard to win. Keep your chin up, most of you have little brothers who maybe wont share the same fate!

  4. soccermom says:

    Kickapoo 5
    Kearney 0

  5. familiarface says:

Catholic had some luck that Vianney withdrew, automatically placing Catholic in the semi-bracket that assures them no lower than a 4th place finish in Brown Division. Plus, they’ll come fresh to their game tomorrow morning. I do hope to see a Glendale/Catholic match-up tomorrow. With both teams coming off losses to Zumwalt So. at tournament last weekend, a head-to-head game will be interesting.

  6. brian says:

    Glendale 2-1 over Liberty.

  7. roger says:

A Catholic vs Kickapoo matchup could be in the making. Several have wanted to see that matchup!!

  8. brian says:

Catholic over Glendale 1-0 in overtime

    Glendale over Blue Springs 1-0.

  9. snuzdr says:

Guess Bigfan has it wrong. Catholic 1, glendale 0
