Drury Panthers – 2
Quincy Hawks – 0
Junior Ben Taylor scored a pair of goals, one in each half, as the Panthers won the GLVC battle against the Hawks. Taylor scored his first goal at the 29:40 mark in the opening half, then gave the Panthers some breathing room when he tallied his fifth goal of the season via a direct kick from 25 yards with just over 20 minutes left in the match (the picture is the direct kick goal)

Junior keeper Stephen Conner notched his fifth consecutive shutout in goal for the Panthers, who have not outscored their six opponents 24-2. Conner had two saves in the game as Drury outshot the Hawks 18-6. Drury ended four years of frustration against the Hawks, whom the Panthers were 0-2-2 against since joining the league in 2005. The Panthers improved to 6-0 overall and share the lead in the GLVC at 3-0. Quincy fell to 2-3 and 1-1.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, visiting Rockhurst in a 7:30 p.m. GLVC match in Kansas City. It’s a rematch of their GLVC Tournament semifinal last season, when the Hawks edged the Panthers 5-4 on penalty kicks to eventually go on to win the league title.

Drury struck first on Cockrell’s penalty-kick goal with13 minutes left in the half, then made it 2-0 when Williams scored with three minutes left before the break. Williams scored an unassisted goal with 36 minutes left in game, and Pritchard closed the scoring with a header off a Cockrell pass just four minutes later.

Quincy, which defeated then-No. 7 Truman State earlier this season – the team that handed Drury its only loss in ’09 – fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. Panthers’ junior goalkeeper Jessie Sanderson picked up her fourth shutout of the season and 24th of her career while registering two saves in the contest.

Drury returns to GLVC action at Rockhurst on Friday, with a 5 p.m. start in Kansas City.

Southwest Baptist Bearcats – 4 (1st OT)
Missouri Southern Lions – 3
A goal from each of the Roher sisters, including the game winner in sudden-death overtime from Vanessa Roher, gave SBU a 4-3 win over Missouri Southern. Senior forward Shannon Roher connected in the 10th minute to give SBU an early 1-0 lead, with the team’s leading scorer, Jaymye Ross, earning the assist. The Bearcats were able to lengthen their lead in the 40th minute, when Jen Tenholder hooked a shot in off of a direct kick, and SBU went in at halftime up 2-0.

The game looked to be well in control, but Missouri Southern made their push in the second half. Just a minute after the second half kickoff, the Lions’ Alicia Vonderheid snuck one past Bearcat keeper Megan Link to cut the lead in half, 2-1. SBU answered back, however, and in the 54th minute, senior defender Caitlin Tull’s header scored off of Heidi Lewis’ corner kick, and the ‘Cats had a two goal lead once again. Missouri Southern was not done, however, and two quick goals in the 65th and 70th minutes tied the game at 3-3.

Video interview with Vanessa Roher post-game

SBU dominated possession during the first ten minute half of extra time, getting three shots, but could not get one through. The Bearcats finally broke through in the 102nd minute, when Vanessa Roher took the pass from her sister Shannon, and hooked in a shot from the left corner of the box, just pass the arms of the Missouri Southern keeper.
