Viking Shootout: Neosho Wildcats Shutout West Plains ZizzersNeosho Wildcats – 4

The Wildcats came out fast and hard, brandishing a physical game the Zizzer’s were unable, or unwilling, to match this evening at Kickapoo. Neosho got all four goals in the first half as Brad Toomoth, Jared Hill (2 goals, #19 in the photo to the right) and Xavier Ruiz (#10 in the photo, on the right) scored for the Wildcats. Jake Welsh handled everything thrown his way, including one very important diving save as he went to his left and pushed a hard shot up and over early in the 2nd half, helping the Wildcats maintain their momentum. Neosho faces the host Vikings in the winner’s bracket at 10:30 am Saturday.

Former Glendale Player Brian Lindsey Seriously Injured In Rocheport

Brian LindseyFrom the Columbia Missourian:

COLUMBIA — An MU student who was run over by a bus at a Rocheport winery early this morning is in serious condition at University Hospital.

The bus was leaving the parking lot of Les Bourgeois Vineyards around 1 a.m. when 22-year-old MU student Brian Lindsey of Springfield tried to stop it. He fell under the bus, which ran over Lindsey, came to a rest on top of him, and then backed off.

Lindsey was taken to University Hospital with severe injuries and is listed in serious condition.

The picture of Brian (far right) is following the 2007 Club Nationals, won by the Mizzou Club team. Brian was one of four Mizzou players on the All-Tournament team, all pictured here.

Former Coaches – Chip Dutchik and Kiley Cirillo

Chip-DutchikHead Coach Chip Dutchik, former assistant for the Missouri State Bears, has opened play in Boca Raton FL where his Fighting Knights of Lynn University will host a pair of games this weekend. The Lady Knights go into the weekend with a 4-3 record. Dutchik got his first win as Head Coach in the first game of the season

The Chip Dutchik era started off with a bang as Lynn University’s women’s soccer team won 2-1 over Northwood in their season opener Sunday afternoon. Megan Walsh scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left to play while Brittany Evernden notched an assist in her first game back since October 2007.

The team has bounced back from a close loss to #11 Carson-Newman. The Fighting Knights Nova Southeastern Saturday. Fans can follow all of the action live by logging on to www.lynn.edu/athletics and selecting the “live audio” and “live stats” links. Coach Dutchik already has one commitment from a player locally, Jess Maerz who plays for Parkview and Springfield SC. I have an interview with Jess on her early commitment and plans for playing in the FL sunshine.

Coach-CirilloCoach Kiley Cirillo, a Kickapoo graduate and former player and head Coach at Missouri Southern, is back in soccer full-time in the Indianapolis area. Coach Cirillo is working as an assistant Coach for the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, a job that ensures a trip home every other year since the Greyhounds are part of the GLVC and compete against Drury and Missouri S&T. The Greyhounds are ranked #12 and are unbeaten this year with a 6-0 overall record, 3-0 in the GLVC. Their game against Drury will be October 18th, here in Springfield.

In addition, he has joined the Pike Soccer Club, also known as the Indy Burn. He’ll be working with the Youth players as part of a strong coaching staff with the Club.

That’s junior Jackson Patillo scoring his 1st goal, the 4th of the game, from a fine cross by his teammate Travis McReynolds.

Monett Soccer Tourney: Carl Junction Bulldogs vs Monett CubsMonett Cubs – 0

These two teams faced each other Monday and it was a hard fought game, as noted by the CJ website. Monett won 5-1 but with yellow cards earned in the game it sent two of their players to the bench this evening. CJ took advantage and came out as the aggressor in this game, getting the first shot of the game 7 minutes in and finally breaking through in the 27th minute. The goal was scored by Brandon Kennedy (pictured at right, just before shooting as he entered the box). 1-0 at the half but Monett came out strong, getting two good opportunities in the first 5 minutes including a shot that went off the crossbar. That was as close as they got as the Bulldog defense held on for the win.

Max Duncan, Joplin Eagles, To Become Drake Bulldog

Joplin Eagles, Max Duncan (2010)

Joplin Eagles, Max Duncan (2010)

The college recruiting cycle is a never-ending process for the players and the coaches. There are already a pair of Division I prospects who have verbally committed this season to play beginning in the Fall 2010. Today you meet one of them, Max Duncan of the Joplin Eagles who has committed to the Drake Bulldogs. That’s always good news when a local product joins a program that will allow us to follow their progress with at least a pair of games at Missouri State in the next 4 years. The video is less than 4 minutes and Max offers feedback on his recruiting cycle, the keys to being discovered and what a freshman or sophomore should be thinking about now if they want to play college ball, especially at the Division 1 level.

Subscribe To Your Favorite Teams Schedule In Google

For those of you who pay attention to these details, you know that I maintain several calendars for my use and yours. I collect, and input, all of the high school and college team schedules from the area and publish them under a high school or a college calendar. There’s also a general calendar where I’ve posted Men’s National team games, KC Wizards and general MLS games as well as Champion’s League games (when they were on basic cable and ESPN/ESPN2). That’s how I’m able to track who is playing, what games I can attend, and report on the scores. Lot’s of work, trust me.

Well, Google has heard my plea, and the plea of all of the other sports fans around the world. If you have a Google account, I highly recommend you visit your Calendar and add a few new ones. Here’s Google’s description:

Now, when you look under “Other Calendars,” click “Add,” then “Browse Interesting Calendars” (or use this link to the Calendar directory), you’ll find calendars for hundreds of teams in dozens of sports leagues — everything from the National Football League to the Korean FA Cup.

sports_calendars

When you subscribe to your favorite team’s calendar, you’ll see every game listed, updated in real time with the score as the game progresses.

sports_calendars2

You can also subscribe to a “Contacts’ Birthdays and Events” calendar, which will add all of your contacts’ birthdays to Google Calendar. Data is pulled from your Gmail contacts and your friends’ Google profiles.

As noted, I highly recommend this, they’ve got teams from around the world. I’m subscribed to the US under both FIFA World Cup Qualifiers as well as Men’s National Team – Friendlies. I’ve also added the same set of calendars for Norway and Sweden, as well as Leed’s in the English 1st Division. Who are you going to add?

PS – you can add my calendars as well, or I can help your team add their calendar to the website. Contact me for more information.

Wednesday High School Soccer Report

Jefferson City Jays – 2
Rolla Bulldogs – 1
Rolla scores with fifteen minutes left in the first half, Jays score two in the final fourteen minutes of game to win.

The game was a rematch of last year’s sectional game, which the Jays won 3-0. The score line is a positive one given the strong results JC had in their visit to Springfield. It positions the Bulldogs to be a challenger at the end of the year and it gives them a strong message about what steps they need to take to be prepared in two months.
