Thursday Southwest Missouri High School Soccer Report

Ozarks Conference: Glendale Falcons Get Past Waynesville Tigers in PKsGlendale Falcons – 1 (PKs)
Waynesville Tigers – 0
The Tigers came to town tonight with an experienced squad looking for recognition in the region. Absorbing the initial attack the Falcon’s threw at them, including a hard shot from 30 yards by Austin Hart that required a reaction save by keeper Sam Dowling, it was the Tiger’s who slowly established the games tempo in the 1st half. Working both wings, with a commitment to winning the 50/50 balls across the pitch, it was the Tiger’s who applied the majority of the early pressure.

The Falcon’s absorbed it and almost scored twice in the final minutes of the half except for Dowling’s work on the endline. The teams continued this back and forth in the 2nd half, the best opportunity midway through when GK Jordan Pitt’s made a diving save (video coming). Neither team was able to score in regulation however and Glendale headed to OT for the 2nd night in a row. Junior sweeper Gehrig Haberstock got the Tigers to the 2nd OT when he cleared a ball off the line behind his keeper (video coming) but otherwise the game was destined for PK’s it seemed. Pitt stopped the first Tiger shooter when he guessed correctly, and Waynesville’s 3rd shooter put his shot over the crossbar. That meant when senior Brandon Baum stepped up to the spot as the 5th shooter, his ball to the corner gave the Falcon’s a 4-2 advantage and the win.

The Falcon’s continue the week with games Friday and Saturday against Cape Central and Jackson, from SE Missouri. Waynesville visits Nixa on Friday.

Monett Cubs – 10
Hillcrest Hornets – 0

Kickapoo Chiefs – 3
Ozark Tigers – 2
The Chiefs came back from a 2 goal deficit in the 2nd half to win in the final two minutes of the game. Freshman Aaron Strunk got the game-winner, heading in a cross for the Chiefs in an important District 11 game. Skyler Russell scored the first two goals for the Chiefs.

Nixa Eagles – 6
Webb City Cardinals – 0
Another COC win for the Eagles at home. Goals for Nixa from Nathan Massey, assist by Kaleb Romero; Romero; KhaiUyen Huynh, assist by Romero; Luke Moore, assist by Massey; Chad Mills, assist by Massey; Kaleb Romero. Mason Young with the shutout, the Eagles are now 7-2

Carthage Tigers – 1 (PKs)
Springfield Catholic – 0
Another low scoring game, as the Class 3 Tiger’s defense is able to hold off Catholic’s potent small school attack but are once again unable to find the back of the net in regulation.

School of the Osage – 4
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 2
Osage, coached by Brandon Randall, in its first year of soccer, improved to 4-5 with a win over Lebanon, 4-2. Freshman Robbie Mueller scored all four goals for Osage, two in the first half, two in the second. Osage led 2-1 at the break, only to see Lebanon senior Brett Chaffin tie the match at the 26 minute mark. Mueller broke the tie at the 23 minute mark, then added the final score two minutes later. D.J. Miller scored Lebanon first-half goal.

West Plains Zizzers – 2
Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 1
The Zizzer’s came out fast this evening, getting their first goal in the 4th minute when Cory Parks hooked up with Brodie Bender who scored. Bender got his second of the evening in the 45th minute, from Justyn Biggers, and the Zizzer’s held off the Wildcats for the win. Brenden Williams got Rogersville close with his goal in the 47th.

Cassville Wildcats – 0
Neosho Wildcats – 2

Richland Bears –
Laquey Hornets –

From the Liberator Classic

Warrensburg Tigers – 4
Marshfield Blue Jays – 3
In a game that was tied 3 times this evening, it was the Tigers who sealed the win via a set piece 2 minutes into the 1st overtime.

Bolivar Liberators – 5
Clinton Cardinals – 0
A pair of goals by Tinash Zungura led the Liberators in their shut out win.

Tuesday Ozarks High School Soccer Report

Ozarks Conference: Kickapoo Chiefs Get Late Winner Against Parkview Vikings
Kickapoo Chiefs – 2
Parkview Vikings – 1
The Vikings and Chiefs went at it tonight in a tightly contested contest that was decided in the 75th minute. The game winner was scored by senior Skyler Russell when he was able to loft a ball from the far right side to the far side netting, finally beating goalkeeper Jonathan Malter who had handled everything thrown at him in the 2nd half, including a key diving save only 3 minutes earlier when Russell was able to sneak into the 6 yard box on the left side.

The win came as a result of the Chief’s ability to finally put the ball on the surface and maintain possession, controlling the majority of play the final 20 minutes. Parkview had several opportunities, setting the tempo and taking an early lead on Brian Otradovec’s goal in the 6th minute. Otradovec benefited from Jordan Houseman’s hard work on the right side, winning a foot race for the ball and sending it back into the box from the endline. It was that type of work, in combination with Jared Moore in the center, that made it hard for the Chief’s to establish any rhythm themselves. When the Chief’s did challenge, it came from well-timed runs on balls sent over the back line, targeting Russell in particular. The tying goal was scored by freshman Aaron Strunk, recently moved from the back line to his preferred position on the front line. He opportunistically lofted a ball over the defense after a scramble as Malter came out to stuff Russell twice as he made a direct run into the box from Ian Kennedy’s fine diagonal ball out of the midfield. When the ball popped loose on the left side, Strunk was there.

Both teams will be working on winning goal kicks and establishing a more physical presence after this game, as I’ve never seen so many balls go uncontested and hit the ground. An important District 11 and Ozarks Conference win for the Chiefs but one that left as many questions as it answered.

Ozark Tigers – 1
Carthage Tigers – 0
In a rematch of the Christian County Tournament title match, this time it is the Ozark Tigers that earn the one goal shutout win. Also an important Central Ozark Conference win for the team from Christian County.

Rolla Bulldogs – 4
West Plains Zizzers – 0
Applying the lessons learned during the Viking Showdown, the Zizzer’s went into halftime down by one. The Bulldog offense obviously learned a few things recently as well, breaking out for 3 more in the second half of the Ozarks Conference win. Rolla’s goals by 37th minute – Kyle Keebey off a cross from Cody Martin, 62nd minute – Cody Martin on a free kick, 74th minute – Miles Wilson assisted by Kyle Keebey and 78th minute – Kyle Keebey assisted by Cody Martin

Marshfield Blue Jays – 3
Rogersville Wildcats – 1
On an incredibly soggy field, Marshfield prevails on goals by Ryan Doolittle (Colton Harden), Robert Martin (Colton Harden) and Robert Martin (PK). Rogersville goal by Derrion Donson (Jonathon Young). Marshfield Keeper Nic Yonter with 8 saves. COC and District win for the Blue Jays.

Waynesville Tigers - 5
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 1
An Ozarks Conference and District 10 win for Waynesville. Goals by Karl Dupont (asst. Mark Ward), Kyle Varner (asst. Aaron Lewis), Kevin Johnson (asst. Ben Moore), Chris Beaudoin (asst. Yannik Roell), David Moore (asst. Mark Ward.) The JV Tigers also won 4-0.

Waynesville is now 6-1-2 and travels to Glendale on Thursday.

Central Bulldogs - 6
