ESPN Adds Two Saturday EPL Games To Its Weekly US Broadcast Schedule

According to EPLtalk website

ESPN has acquired the TV rights to two of the weekly Premier League slots on US television for the 2009-2010 season. Beginning on August 15, 2009, each week ESPN will feature the 7:45am ET Saturday game and the 3pm ET Monday game.

Those two weekly time slots were previously held by Setanta Sports who in the past had sub-licensed those games from Fox Soccer Channel. Despite Setanta losing the two timeslots to ESPN, Setanta US will continue showing the two 10am ET Saturday slots (one game on Setanta US, and the other on Setanta Xtra), as well as the early Sunday morning ET kickoffs and the Tuesday and Wednesday midweek Premier League matches. The games shown by Setanta will also be available on its broadband package at http://www.setanta-i.com

The article also offers some games you can expect to see, including Chelsea v Hull City on August 15th at 6:45am on ESPN2, Liverpool v Aston Villa at 2pm August 24th and Chelsea v Burnley on August 29th at 6:45am.

So to cover your bases, it looks like satellite is still the best viewing path since Mediacom hasn’t added Sentata to their Sports package, at least not to my knowledge.

Parkview Vikings Alumni Game

Parkview Vikings Alumni Game
Another sign that the regular season is just around the corner was Wednesday night’s alumni game for the Parkview Vikings. The friendly match between the alumni and the current boys team players that are in town prior to the start of the season was held at the YMCA facilities on Republic Road. There was a wide range of players that turned out, with graduates as recent as May and the oldest from the early 90′s I believe. Oh, and as I told the attendees, I was disappointed to not see Katie Brooks (’05, Wm Jewell ’09) out kicking it around with them, I wonder if they were concerned about keeping up :)

I’ve numbered the players from left to right, back to front. I’ll fill in what I’m confident of, add yourself and your graduation year if you’d like.

Back: 1, Darren Shaw ’09, 3, Mike Lampe, 5, 6, 7, 8, Matt Stufflebeam ’00, 10
Middle: Joseph Florez ’03, 12, Will Griffin ’07, 14, Morgan Holt ’09, Matt Medley ’09, 17, Zach ’07
Front: 19, Tim Griffin ’09, 21, Tom Marlow ’07, Matt Beckett ’08

If your high school holds an alumni game, feel free to send me an update and a photo so we can catch up on the

Reid Harbach and Austin Hart Particpate In Region II ODP

Springfield Soccer Club Two players from the Springfield S.C. 93/94 Boys team recently returned from the USYS Region II 1994 ODP Camp held in Rockford, IL with great success. Reid Harbach and Austin Hart both competed in the Regional Camp held for players born in 1994 from the Midwest 14 State Associations. Their Missouri ODP team competed in daily matches and from those matches players were selected to train with the Regional ODP Staff Coaches.

At the conclusion of the camp the Regional ODP Staff Coaches select players to be included in the Region II ODP Pool Team. It is from this pool team that players will be selected to participate in the various tournaments and events to represent Region II ODP both domestically and internationally. “Congratulations Reid and Austin on making the ODP regional pool. These two players are an example of what it takes to reach the next level, they work hard at every practice and also play hard in every game that I have coached them. They are also very competitive in all aspects of the game. For Reid to make this team the last two years is a testament to his work ethic and desire. Again congratulations Reid and Austin.” said Carl Rose Boys Director of Coaching for the Springfield S.C.

Both players will now begin preparations for their respective High School teams this fall. Harbach will be a Sophomore at Springfield Catholic High School and Hart will be a Sophomore at Glendale High School. At the conclusion of the High School season they will rejoin their club team Springfield S.C. 93/94 as they look to build upon a successful Midwest Regional League campaign and a MYSA State Cup Semi-Finalist appearance.

Soccer Without Borders

Soccer Without BordersFolks, this request comes to you from Ann Cook, the assistant coach at Penn State University and the finest soccer player Springfield has produced (she’s a Glendale graduate and former national champion with JB Marine) I reproduce it here in the hopes that some of you will be interested in assisting her and the organization in their efforts which are outlined below.

Things are going amazingly well with our project in Granada, Nicaragua. We have office/community center space now and are running programs there for about 100 girls each week. We ran our second annual TEAM camp and coaches’ clinic this year with the help of 22 volunteers representing several different college programs. We have hired 10 Nicaraguan coaches and youth leaders. With their help we ran the first ever girls-only league in Granada this spring! There is a ton of potential with this project. Already we have seen changes in the way the girls see themselves and their future and are starting to see changes in the way they are treated by their male peers. Change is possible but we need your help!

The next step in the evolution of the project is to send two long-term volunteers to Nicaragua. I couldn’t be more proud to say that two of my recent graduates from here at Penn State have decided to take these internships – Kay Adami and Zoe Bouchelle. These are easily two of my all-time favorite kids – kids who make the long, ridiculous hours of coaching more than worthwhile. For you coaches and teachers out there, these are two of the kids who keep you coming back and make you realize why you do what you do. Please support this project and their experience and help them brighten the lives of these Nicaraguan kids. Every little bit helps and it’s incredibly easy (and tax deductible!). Visit http://firstgiving.com/granadaproject to read more about the two of them and to donate online … or if you’d rather, you can send your donations to:

Drury Lady Panthers Check In From Italy

Drury Panthers logoLike the Men’s team, the Drury Lady Panthers are traveling in Europe this month partaking in the cultural and soccer experiences available to them. In the Ladies case, the travel is to Italy and junior Kelsy Long is handling the blogging for the website:

Bon Journo from Chioggia Sottomarina! We finally made it.

THURSDAY: We anxiously left Springfield for KC this afternoon with our excellent drivers Summer and Andy (Andrew). It took a while to get there because coach drives like a grandma. haha just kidding. After dinner, we stopped by Wal-Mart to get a few items we forgot. Excitement broke out in the aisles and parking lot, when Cait (Weins) and Coach competed in a speed walking competition. Cait won. Meanwhile, Bailey (Randol) put on a dancing show in the parking lot when Andy cranked the music.

There’s plenty more from Kelsy, including some thoughts about the beach near their hotel and the relaxed rules in Italy. Keep up with all of it on the Panther’s website.
