Former Drury standout Cody Reinberg is featured in the Patriot News

When Cody Reinberg arrived at preseason training camp in mid-March, he was no different than any of the other first-year players the Harrisburg City Islanders have thoroughly checked out during their tremendously efficient six-year run in the USL Second Division.

Reinberg wanted minutes.

And he wanted to crack the starting lineup immediately.

Once the 24-year-old defender started competing against some of the veterans and other rookies Bill Becher and Steve Widdowson were evaluating, Reinberg decided that just making the opening-night roster and earning a contract were significant achievements all by themselves.

Cody’s played in 15 games, starting 9. Harrisburg plays Richmond on August 22nd with the winner going to the Title game on August 29th.

Bring The World Cup To The USA

Go USA Bid
I’m guessing some, if not most of you have heard that the US is working to bring the World Cup back to the USA in either 2018 or 2022. The most recent step in that process is a new website, appropriately called GoUSAbid.com There’s a website/blog that offers lots of current information on the worlds game, a petition you can sign, a Facebook page, you name it they’ve got it. Here’s some of the details:

We built gousabid.com to be your one-stop hub for bringing the FIFA World Cup™ back to the US in 2018 or 2022. Here, you’ll be able to join together with other like-minded fans and let the world know why the US deserves the honor of hosting another tournament.

You’ll be able to sign a petition supporting the bid, buy a sticker to put on your car, get your friends involved, and much more. And in order to get the World Cup™ back to the US, we need to build a strong community of dedicated fans like you who are ready to stand up and tell the world that US is ready for another Cup.

We all remember how big of a success the World Cup™ was in ’94. Who could forget Bulgaria’s historic run, before they were knocked off by Italy in front of over 74,000 fans at Giants Stadium in New Jersey? Just as exciting was Brazil defeating Italy for the title in a classic defensive struggle in front of over 90,000 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Check it out and play your part!

Missouri State Bears Host Missouri Southern Lions In Early Women’s Soccer Exhibition

Missouri State Bears Host Missouri Southern LionsFreshman forward Becky Handley scored twice as the Missouri State women’s soccer offense was clicking on all cylinders in today’s exhibition match against Missouri Southern. The Bears defeated the Lions 4-0 at Plaster Field. Handley led off the scoring for the Bears in the 28th minute off a centering feed from fellow freshman Claire Hulcer. Two minutes later, Hulcer sent another centering feed into the box that was deflected high in the air by a Lions’ defender. Rachel Weimer tapped the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 Bears lead.

In the 53rd minute of play, senior Jenna Dobkins picked up a loose ball near midfield. She dribbled to the top of the box and lasered the ball past the Lions’ keeper. Handley then added her second goal of the match in the 63rd minute off a rebound to give the Bears the 4-0 win (pictured above).

Jessica Teahan played the first half in net recording one save for the victory. Freshman keeper Chelsea Voet played in net for the Bears in the second half. She made one save to help preserve the shutout.
