This Week In Ozarks Soccer

I don’t know about you but I’m not quite ready for the season to start. I’ll survive however and looking over the calendars that I’ve got, there are some nice derby’s already lined up for the first week of play.

Tuesday kicks off the season (other than Waynesville’s early win over Sullivan Friday) with a pair of quality challenges. Greenwood hosts New Covenant Academy at Cooper with a 4:30 pm start time while Branson comes North to face COC foe Logan-Rogersville, also at 4:30 pm. Both games are Varsity-first it appears so get out early. I anticipate being at the Greenwood match, having missed this derby last year for the trip to Branson.

Thursday offers another early challenge as Ozark visits Glendale. I’ve heard some good things about Ozark’s squad while Big O Sports took a look at Glendale and Kickapoo in their most recent issue (pages 30-31). There’s a double-header of sorts at Cooper as Central hosts KC East and Greenwood takes on Bolivar, a team certain to have a chip on its shoulder as the boys attempt to match the girls deep run this past Spring.

Friday brings the Jeff City Jays to town on their annual pilgrimage. They’ll take on Parkview at 5:00 pm before moving further South to face Kickapoo on Saturday (11 am JV, 1 pm Varsity). Kickapoo will host Nixa on Friday as well.

There will be some college ball as well. The Drury Panthers are home this weekend, with games on Friday and Saturday. Due to Friday night football at Harrison Stadium, the Panther’s will host Harding in a pair of games at Cooper #1. The women play at 5pm and the men at 7:30 pm. Sunday is a big game, as #7 ranked Lewis comes to town. The women play at 12 pm and the men at 2:30 pm. These games will be back at Harrison, and we’ll find out very early whether the Panther’s can be contenders.

The Missouri State Bears are at Tulsa tomorrow but return Saturday to host UMKC. The game time at Plaster is 4:00 pm due to the lights situation. The women travel to Arkansas-Little Rock for a game on Friday, coming off of this weekend’s split at Arkansas.

Regarding schedules, here are the schools I currently have schedules for: Aurora, Bolivar,Branson, Cassville, Glendale, Greenwood, Hillcrest, Kickapoo, Lebanon, Logan-Rogersville, Marshfield, Monett, New Covenant Academy, Nixa, Ozark, Parkview, Springfield Catholic, Springfield Central, Willard

If your school is NOT on this list, feel free to forward your’s to me. PLEASE send it as a spreadsheet, I can’t really afford to spend a bunch of time typing schedules into my calendar these days so if you want me to be aware of and cover your team, that is what I need.

Drury Panthers Shut Down Newman Jets

Drury Panthers Cool The Newman JetsDrury Panthers – 3
Newman Jets – 0
The Panther’s showed off their high-powered offense this evening in their home opener against Newman (Wichita, KS), winning courtesy of Micah Whorton’s hat trick. While the Jets were able to defeat the Panthers 3-2 at home last year, this years Panther’s squad appears to have a chip on it’s shoulder that should help them avoid those upsets this year.

There are still some kinks to work out, as evidenced by two near goals early in the 2nd half when some lackadaisical defending nearly led to goals for the Jet’s, including one that rang off the upright as keeper Stephen Conner got a touch on the shot. Newly promoted Head Coach Ryan Swan showed a lot of confidence in his squad however as he rotated out his starters and nearly cleared the bench this evening. The speed and technical skills shown by the newcomers point to a high level of competitiveness within the team, certainly contributing to attitude shown on the field tonight.

I’ll have pictures on Tuesday, looks like I misplaced my card reader during the move and tomorrow is fully booked. Details from the game ca. Be found on The Panthers, return to action on Friday, when they play host to Harding in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference match at the Cooper Soccer Complex Field massage service

Drury Panthers Host Newman Tonight, Initiate Live Streaming

Drury Panthers logoFresh off a 4-2 victory at Truman State to open the season on Friday, the Drury men’s soccer Panthers will play their home opener when Newman visits Harrison Stadium for a 7 p.m. match Sunday.

Newman, which will be opening its season Sunday against the Panthers, defeated Drury 3-2 in Wichita, Kan., last season. The Jets, who finished 6-10-4 last season, have been picked for sixth in the Heartland Conference preseason poll.

Drury’s victory at Truman State in their debut under head coach Ryan Swan on Friday included goals by Jake Allison, Andrew Bordelon, Ben Taylor and Micah Whorton. Junior keeper Stephen Conner was credited with four saves for the Panthers, who scored a pair of goals in each half against the Bulldogs.

Sunday’s match will also be the first soccer contest carried live through Stretch Internet, with the play-by-play audio to be called by John Miller. DU fans can sign up for Stretch Internet’s free broadcasts by clicking on the link on the main athletics page at massage girl
