The U.S. Men’s National Team advanced to the CONCACAF Gold Cup final for the third time in a row and seventh overall with a clinical 2-0 victory against Honduras in the semifinals this evening behind goals from Clarence Goodson and Kenny Cooper at Soldier Field in Chicago. Troy Perkins recorded his third shutout of the Gold Cup and his second against Honduras, making two spectacular saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The U.S. will be looking for their third straight regional championship on Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m. at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. against Mexico. This will be the fourth meeting between the U.S. and Mexico in the Gold Cup final. The U.S. lost to Mexico 4-0 in 1993 and 1-0 in 1998, but defeated their arch rival 2-1 in the last Gold Cup final in 2007, which earned them a spot in the 2009 Confederations Cup. Sunday’s match will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel
