US MNT Advances To First Ever Men’s Final In A FIFA Competition
Wow, the hyperbole overflows…
In one of the greatest matches in U.S. Soccer history, the U.S. Men’s National Team got goals by Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey to stun No. 1-ranked Spain 2-0 and advance to the finals of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa. The U.S. will face Brazil/
South Africain their first ever men’s final in a major international competition on any level on Sunday, June 28 in Johannesburg.
Game time Sunday is 1:00 pm, live on ESPN. I’ll probably watch it in St Louis before heading back to Springfield from St Louis later that afternoon. Where will you watch it?
I very much enjoyed the game on Wednesday but all I can think is what team is it that showed up for the first two games? And if the planets hadn’t aligned in the final group game when the US scored 3 and Brazil shut out Italy 3-0, where would we be now? So I’m not going to get to excited at this stage, although I am more excited than I was down after watching the previous 4 games the US has played (including Honduras and Costa Rica). And if we don’t get to see more of Charlie Davies, Conor Casey, Jay Demerit and even Jonathan Spector and Benny Feilhaber, then what goes down?

One of the greatest results…not greatest games. Soon enough we will have the talent to really compete with the big boys.
