Missouri State Cup: St Louis Scott Gallagher U16 Wins In PKs Against Springfield SC

June 8, 2009 by Ole · 2 Comments

MO State Cup: U16 Springfield SC vs St Louis SG1 (Semi)
St Louis Scott Gallgher – 3 (PKs)
Springfield SC – 2
It took regulation, 2 OTs and 8 PKs to determine a winner today. Drew Garrone (Lafayette – pictured above) stopped the first two and the final shooter in leading his team to the win.

Goals for SSC were scored by Alec Martinez (Glendale) and Kelsey Garnett (Central). SSC took the lead 22 minutes into the game when Alec was able to beat his defender and break in alone, getting his shot off between the legs of a defender, to the far right side netting. SG tied the game off a scramble in the box following a corner kick, with Derek Rehagen going to the ground to knock the ball past the keeper. SG took the lead seconds before halftime when a PK was called on SSC for holding in the box on the far right.

SSC came back, with Kelsey Garnett scoring when he slotted his shot to the back post from the 18 when it was knocked down following a cross into the box.

The U16 semi-final game between the SSC and SG1 was a very even well matched game. Always a shame the game results come down to a shoot out.

Good luck to SG1 in tomorrow’s championship

The only reason Scott Gallagher was still in that game was because the ref made a lousy call to give them a PK at the end of the first half. Without a call like that, SSC moves on to the final and probably wins State Cup. Way to go referee!
