SSC moves onto the semifinals following their shutout win over their Central region rival. Nick Kofron got the game-winner in stoppage time of the first half when he headed in a cross from near the back post. The video above shows Carthage’s Joe Curti putting away his opportunity in stoppage at the end of the game for the final margin.
Springfield will face off against the #1 seed St Louis Scott Gallagher squad in the semifinal Monday at 2:00 pm at Field #13.
U15 Lou Fusz Gold – 2
U15 Springfield SC – 1
After giving up an early goal to Lou Fusz, SSC tied the game shortly afterwards. The deciding goal came in the first two minutes of the 2nd half when the Fusz player pounded home a ball from 12 yards out. A lighting delay shortly afterwards meant the two teams had to come back after a 30 minute delay and while SSC had numerous chances, they were unable to convert, losing to the defending champions in the semifinal.
U14 Scott Gallagher Academy – 1 (OT)
U14 Springfield SC – 0
A game that was scoreless in regulation almost went to PK’s until Gallagher was able to score late in the 2nd OT period for the win.

U18 Scott Gallagher – 0 (4-3 PK’s)
U18 Springfield SC – 0
Following a scoreless draw through regulation and two OT periods, the U18 semifinal went to PK’s. Gallagher won when GK Kevin Corby (SLUH/Kentucky) blocked the 3rd and 5th shooter for Springfield. The photo above is from the 1st half as the crowd reacts to an early opportunity that went just wide.
Springfield SC’s pursuit of a 3rd State Championship thus ends in the semifinals. The Final will feature Scott Gallagher against the Lou Fusz squad that won the U14 and U15 titles before SSC won the U16 and U17 titles.
