Missouri High School Girls Soccer: C3 D11 Seeding

No surprises with the top 2 seeds gathered by last year’s defending district champions (Glendale District 11 and Ozark District 12 in 2008). The schedule reflects the fact that Springfield high schools are graduating early in the week, I know I’ll be busy on Monday May 18th attending my niece Haylie’s graduation from Glendale.

1. Glendale Falcons (13-6-1)
2. Ozark Tigers (16-7)

Missouri High School Girls Soccer: Class 3 District 10 Seeding

Well, tonight’s game against Kickapoo won’t have an impact on seeding after all. The Coaches were busy this weekend taking care of business (have you said thank you to your coach lately?) They Jays do have a 3-game winning streak going as part of an 8-2 run in the last 10 games. It’s their final game of the season tonight before Districts so I’m expecting some action!

1. Jeff City Jays (10-10)
2. Rolla Bulldogs ( )
3. Camdenton Lakers (16-4)
4. Lebanon Yellowjackets ( )
4. Waynesville Tigers (4-12)

The Waynesville Tigers are the host and games will be played on the turf.

GAMES:
Saturday: 12 noon – Lebanon vs. Waynesville

Monday: 5:30 – JC vs. Lebanon/Waynesville winner
7:15 – Rolla vs. Camdenton

Wednesday: 6:00 Championship game.

Final Week Of The Regular Season Arrives

The final week of the regular season has arrived and there are a few teams scrambling to make up games but I think the Class 3 seeding discussions should be fairly straight forward this week.

Monday evening the Jefferson City Lady Jays visit to play against the Kickapoo Chiefs. JC, newly added to our mix by being the Central MO squad that remained in District 10 now populated by Camdenton, Rolla, Waynesville and Lebanon, can probably claim the #1 seed in the District with a win over Kickapoo. I’ll be out there to see how things play out. I may split my time between that game and Camdenton’s visit to play Glendale, we’ll see how industrious I’m feeling. A win by the Falcon’s would give them their first outright Ozark Conference title since 2003.

Thursday evening Glendale will host Catholic which is always an entertaining game that brings out fans from across the city. Cooper #2 is the site.

Otherwise it’s wrap up the season and prepare for the playoffs. There is a bit of controversy brewing in Class 2 as the Wildcats of Harrisonville aren’t feeling the love of the recent seeding. Warrensburg doesn’t seem to be surprised by Harrisonville’s response. Harrisonville’s attitude wasn’t improved by the game against Pembrooke, despite winning. Should be a barn burner in Bolivar beginning Friday night, continuing until Wednesday. Oh, you did note that Harrison has themselves moving all the way to the final, right :)

Meanwhile, in Arkansas the girls season has ended. The Bentonville Lady Tigers captured its second Class 7A state title in three years Friday with a 2-0 win against Fayetteville at Razorback Field.

The Lady Tigers do lose seven seniors, including All-American Cortney Sanders, who’s scored 63 goals in the past three seasons. She’ll leave the team as Bentonville’s second all-time leading scorer behind Arkansas sophomore Kelly O’Connor, who scored 104 career goals. Sanders signed in April to play soccer at Missouri Southern State University.

UPDATE – Coach Schmitt sent a link noting that the Mountain Home Lady Bombers also won a state title this past weekend, defeating 2-time defending champions Searcy. The Lady Bombers struck first with a goal by freshman Hannah Osmon and an assist from Brooke Rogers. Kirsten Peterson, who was named MVP of the game, put the Lady Bombers up 2-0 on a penalty kick.

Two minutes later, the Lady Lions scored to cut the lead to 2-1. A few minutes later, the Lady Lions put the ball in the net again, but were called for offsides which negated the goal. 12 more minutes of defense and the Bomber’s had their first title.

Springfield DemizeWednesday evening marks the opening game of the season for the Springfield Demize. Game time is 7:30 pm at Cooper #1. There is also a game at 5:00 pm between the Reserve squad and SpringHigh Select. I’ll have more information on the upcoming season Tuesday or Wednesday in advance of the game.

Rolla Bulldogs Capture Group Title At Quincy Notre Dame Tourney

Rolla won their group at the Quincy Notre Dame Tournament for only the second time in the history of the program.

Friday night RHS defeated Sacred-Heart Griffin from Springfield, IL 3-2.

Saturday morning the Bulldogs beat Galesburg, IL 4-0.

Rolla faced off with University High from Normal, IL in what proved to be the championship match Saturday afternoon. University High defeated Columbia Rockbridge 5-3 Friday night and Sacred-Heart Griffin 3-1 Saturday morning.

Rolla and University High tied 2-2 giving RHS the championship by one point due to the shutout vs. Galesburg.

Weekend High School Girls Soccer Report

Jeff City Jays – 3
Waynesville Tigers – 0
The Jefferson City Lady Jays scored three times in the first 15 minutes Friday night while shutting out the Lady Tigers. Kelly Strope, Molly Cowley and Kelly Strope all had a goal and an assist in the victory. Mariah McClain got the shutout in goal, her eighth of the season. The Lady Jays (10-10) will play Monday at Kickapoo.

A District 10 game, I’m guessing Jeff City will capture the #1 seed in the district. A win against Kickapoo would solidify their position.

Richland vs Southern Boone – canceled

Warrensburg vs Branson – canceled due to Branson buses being blocked in following the storms.

Camdenton Lakers – 3 (2 OT)
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 2
Camdenton trailed 1-0 before tying it up 1-1 and then trailed late in the second half 2-1 before tying it up off a free kick with 5 minutes left in the half. Camdenton scored the game winner off of a corner kick with 3 minutes left in the second overtime. Lebanon did an excellent job of getting the field ready to play after it was under water most of yesterday. A District 10 game, as well as a Conference match up, this result probably puts Camdenton in the #3 spot behind Jeff City and Rolla, with Lebanon #4

Well, Southwest and Central Missouri are shut out in the voting for Class 3. Probably an accurate assessment of comparable quality this year. The best team I’ve seen this year is Eureka and I heard that the Liberty team, when they have their National team players, could be unstoppable.

Bolivar gets at least one vote, following their recent District seeding. I’ll have to dig into who the winner might face in the Quarterfinals. Does anyone know? UPDATE – from Brett in Smithville, he notes that the other side of the bracket will likely be defending champions Notre Dame de Sion in District 6.

Woo hoo. Springfield Catholic returns to #1, probably the first time since their teams in 2003/2004 timeframe. Greenwood continues at #4. The new 3 Class set up does open up the play quite a bit. I wonder if I can catch a Trinity game next time I visit Mom in North County, do a bit of scouting :) And

Thursday’s High School Girls Soccer Report

Parkview Vikings Win At Home Against Waynesville Tigers
Parkview Vikings – 1
Waynesville Tigers – 0
The Vikings got their goal from the always reliable Jess Maerz early in the 1st half. Jess collected a defensive clearance in the offensive end and sent a hard shot from about 25 yards out into a corner of the net. That goal, and hard defensive effort led by sophomore McKenzi Payton, allowed the Vikings to get the Ozark Conference win this evening. The Tigers, who recently welcomed their emotional captain Erica Combs back from an early season knee injury, put continuous pressure on Parkview for the final 20 minutes of the game but were never able to penetrate the defensive shell thrown up by the Vikings.

Nixa Eagles – 8
Carl Junction Bulldogs – 0
The Eagles won with a balanced scoring attack from 7 different players. Goals were scored by Kelsey Bartell (2), Vicki Rische, Ashlyn Robillard, Rachel Murphy, Katie Bolton, Brooke Rowden, and Kristin Miller. The win moves their record to 13-6-1. This sets a new single season wins record for the program.

Carthage Tigers – 3
Joplin McAuley – 1
Carthage gets a pair of goals from Jessica Diaz, in the 15th and 65th, and a goal by Jamileth Henriquez 25th to get past their Western neighbor.

Camdenton Lakers – 5
Joplin Eagles – 0
Camdenton junior Latea LaRue scored 3 goals while freshmen Kayla Utley and Abbey Herfurth each scored one. Sandra Shore and Jessica Colliver shared a half each in goal for the shutout.

Marshfield Blue Jays – 3
Dixon Bulldogs – 1
Marshfield rebounds after tough loss to Rogersville Tuesday. Kylea Ryser scores twice and Alex Cantrell scores one.

Willard Tigers -
Central Bulldogs -

Branson Pirates – 1
West Plains Zizzers – 0
The Pirates relied on junior Neva Raschel on senior night to get the win. The goal came in the 79th minute (stoppage time) on an evening that saw both teams play strong games, based upon lessons learned this season.

Kickapoo Chiefs – 10
Hillcrest Hornets – 0

Glendale Falcons – 1
Lebanon Yellowjackets – 0
For the second night in a row, the Falcon’s get a game-winner from their freshman midfielder, Molly Brewer, this time assisted by senior captain Emily Jordan. With the win the Falcon’s are now 8-0 in the Ozark Conference. The Chiefs are 8-1 having completed their Conference games. Next Monday’s game at Camdenton will thus decide if the Falcon’s are sole Conference champions or if they will share the title.
