Thursday High School Girls Soccer Report

LogRog Wildcats Win 3-1 vs COC foe Carthage Tigers
Logan-Rogersville Wildcats – 3
Carthage Tigers – 1
Najee Donson scores a hat trick, with one in the first half and two in the second, to bring the Wildcats back from an initial deficit. The first was a hard shot from the right side that slipped in just over the outreached hands of the goal keeper. The second was a breakaway and the third was a very nice shot from the top of the box. The Wildcats were pressuring the Tigers and when Michelle Crawford slid a ball from the left to Najee, she was able to touch it, turn and bury a shot just inside the upright. Carthage freshman Jessica #13 scored 17 minutes in when she won a 50/50 ball and broke into the box. The Wildcats honored senior Crawford at halftime tonight, the final home game of their first season.

Parkview Vikings – 4
Willard Tigers – 0

Nixa Eagles – 3
Waynesville Tigers – 2
2 Goals by Ashlyn Robillard and 1 by Kelsey Bartell. Courtney Frerichs 2 assists, Shelby Zielke with one.

Bolivar Liberators – 7
Joplin McAuley – 1
A trio of Liberators scored a pair of goals tonight, with Jody McFarlen, Jonna Welch and Sarah Magana. Majesti Rash chipped in as well.

Rolla Bulldogs – 1
Union – 0

Lebanon Yellowjackets – 7
Central Bulldogs – 0
Katie Harril (1), Chelsea Lefors (2), Emily Boyer (2) and Abby Zimmerman (2) score for the Yellowjackets

Camdenton Lakers - 3
Sacred Heart – 2
Senior Night at Camdenton and Camdenton’s sole senior Stephanie Kirvan (23 goals) scored the game winner late in the second half as Sacred Heart fought back after being down 2-0 to tie it up midway through the second half off of a free kick and a header from a corner kick. Latea LaRue scored her 26th goal of the season early in the first half and freshman Danielle Brooks scored Camdenton’s second goal in the first half.

Springfield Catholic Shocks Large School Foe, Glendale Falcons
Springfield Catholic – 2
Glendale Falcons – 1
Jeni Frewin, pouncing on a flicked on ball that got over the Catholic defense finally, curled her shot beyond the keepers reach in the 30th to give the Falcons the lead.

Catholic had two very good opportunities in the final 5 minutes of the half. Natalie Smid’s hard shot from the left, after winning a battle inside the box, was parried out as sophomore Jacinda Lemons reacted well to make the save. The second found the Irish with several touches in the box before a final shot over the crossbar.

The second half hasn’t seen many opportunities for either team but Catholic converted theirs. After Courtney Devlin wins a corner kick in the 72nd minute, Erin Fitzgerald’s corner kick went directly to Bekah Bade who was unmarked at the far post. Lemon’s came out but it fell just beyond her reach and Bade’s header was direct and solid. Despite the tie, it seemed that Catholic was the team with a sense of urgency, possibly recalling the OT and PK’s from last years match. Their hard work was rewarded when Carson Baron’s set piece from midfield fell beyond the 18 yard box where Andrea Parker slid to hit the ball just before the keeper arrived.

An enjoyable game, won by a very deserving side who played hard for the entire 90 minutes.

Missouri High School Girls Soccer: Class 3 District 12 District Seeding

Thanks to my intrepid Joplin correspondent, I finally have the District 12 seeding information (the MSHSAA.org site has been broken the last four times I’ve visited, I wish Kindhart was still there…)

Joplin and Neosho faced off twice this year that I can recall, the first game in early April a win for the Wildcats. The second game was the title game of the Neosho tournament, won this time by Joplin. That win had to factor into the seeding, despite not being a District match up. One of these two teams will play in the Sectional game against either Glendale or Ozark on May 26th at Cooper.

Seeding (records as of time of seeding):
1. Joplin (10-10)
2. Neosho (9-7)
3. Central (6-10)
4. Hillcrest (3-13)
5. Willard (5-13)
6. Carthage (6-12)

Monday May 18

5:30 Central vs Carthage

Tuesday May 19
3:30 Neosho vs Central/Carthage winner
5:30 Joplin vs Hillcrest/Willard winner

Springfield SC College Players, Class of 2009

Springfield Soccer ClubThe Springfield S.C. is pleased to announce its’ senior class of 2009 and their college choices to continue their academic and athletic careers. “Since 2005 we have seen an increase on the number of players from the Springfield S.C. choosing to continue their soccer careers at the collegiate level. As the club has grown so have the expectations of the players as well as the opportunities. This year’s class will definitely make their mark on the college game as they have the talent, commitment and desire to do so. ” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations. The 2009 class of Springfield S.C. graduates will attend all levels of play on both the men’s and women’s side of play.

Team and individual accomplishments have been plenty for this year’s class. “It is a bitter sweet feeling watching the boys class of 2009 prepare to become college student athletes. They have been a great
pleasure to work with over the past six year and they will be missed. They are mentally and physically prepared for the next step in their lives. They have accomplished great things in winning two MYSA State
Cup Championships and numerous other events, but I have no doubt they have high expectations for themselves at the college level.” said Cory Carr Director of Senior Boys Programs.

While the Springfield S.C. places a heavy emphasis on player and team development, there is no doubt that the goal for many is to attract the attention of college coaches. “If you look at the girls’ side of the college game it is such an early process where players are making decisions their sophomore and junior years of high school many times. The commitment by our graduating girls’ players to find the right academic and athletic fit is evident by the variety of schools they have chosen. By attending the high level showcases and traveling the past few years to summer camps, they have given themselves a great amount of exposure. No doubt they will continue to raise the bar of our players at the college level.” said Alumbaugh.

The college season of 2008 was full of success for former Springfield Soccer Club players. Patrick Carver earned NSCAA Division III All-American Honors playing for Emory University for the second consecutive year. Missouri State University made a run to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship behind the play of Heath Melugin and Justin Alford. Drury University also made headlines
by defeating the # 1 team in the nation, Northern Kentucky before being knocked out in the GLVC Semi-Finals behind some stellar play from Adam Peterson and contributions from Danny Collins and Alex
Palmer.

The class of 2009 and their college choices are listed below. “Bottom line is what once was a dream for soccer players from the Springfield area is now a reality. If you want to play college soccer and are diligent
in your approach on and off the field, you can make it happen. You can tell college coaches are pleased with the Alumni of Springfield S.C. as we have multiple players at programs now. This means that the
environment we have here at this club is preparing players to be successful at the next level.” said Alumbaugh. Congratulations to the players and their families for reaching their goals.

Springfield Demize Open Tonight Against Des Moines Menace

PDL Soccer: Springfield Demize press conference
The Professional Development League (PDL) opens yet again in the Springfield market this evening as the Springfield Demize host Des Moines Menace. The game this evening will be played at 5:30 pm, a special concession to the owners of the Menace which is the Kum and Go gas/food chain. The local management and staff will be enjoying the game, it will be interesting to see how many of them cheer for the Menace or the Demize.

The roster isn’t available but there will be the usual supplement of local players, including 4-6 from the Drury Panthers and others such as Mike and Mathew Gow (Lebanon/MSU/MidAm Nazerene), Adam Legg and Quincy Conduff (Kickapoo/Hendrix) and Preston Bates (Kickapoo/Crowder). The photo is from Monday’s press conference, also attended by KOLR10. You can see video here.

I’ve update my Soccer calendar with the Demize schedule as well as the KC Brass and St Louis Lions (who visit Friday) for those of you who might be interested in attending a game. It’s my favorite outlet during the summer as the quality is always good.

The Menace come into the game 1-0, after defeating the Rochester Thunder, a new team associated with a USL-1 team in Minnesota. Des Moines took the lead in the 18th minute, when Ben Taylor (Drury Panthers) scored off an assist from Tim Crone. Taylor played the entire 90 and we can expect to see him tonight.

Chip Dutchik Checks In From Boca Raton

Lynn University Fighting Knights Chip Dutchik, former assistant for the Missouri State Bears and now Head Coach for the Lynn University Fightin’ Knights (D2) checked in from Boca Raton today. Sounds like he and the family are settling in easily and based upon the dozens of trips I’ve made to the area, it’s not hard to imagine. The key message from his note? He want’s to recruit from this area. Hmm, quality coach, small school with tradition of excellence on the pitch, large international student population, minutes from the beach.

I want to be 18 again!

Jeff City Jays Get Past Kickapoo ChiefsKickapoo Chiefs – 1
Jeff City Jays – 2
In a game that meant nothing to either team outside of finishing the regular season well, it was a choppy affair on the South side tonight. The Jays got a pair of goals, from Kara Steiner and , assisted by Kelly Strope in both cases. The Chiefs got one back before the half ended. The second half was back and forth, with both teams coming close but unable to convert. The best opportunity was a header by Kinsey Shouse off a corner kick that was initially parried by senior Shannon Johnson before diving on the rebound.
