All-Stars – please complete the form at this web address

Of the 38 players invited to play, 4 are goalkeepers and the remainder are field players. The vast majority of them are captains of their squads. 14 have signed to play College Soccer, including two at the D1 level – Amanda Dominguez (Kickapoo) at Arkansas and Jody McFarlen (Bolivar) at Missouri State.

There are 7 players from 4 Class 1 programs in the area, including Shelbee Coward of Laquey who is the first representative from her school. Shelbee played on the boys team for two years until the school implemented a girls program two years ago. She has signed to play basketball for Mineral Area CC after being recognized as an All-State basketball player as well.

There are 6 players from 3 Class 2 programs. The Liberators, fresh from winning their first ever Girls District title (time to freshen up the sign on the concession stand Coach Edge and Coach Fast!) will bring Missouri State recruit Jody McFarlen along with a trio of defensive standouts, including goalie Sara Scott. They are joined by Beth Kittle of West Plains and Bianca Holloway of the Monett Cub’s. Beth has signed with Hannibal-LaGrange (NAIA) while Bianca, who has been playing on the boys team as well as Club soccer, has signed to play for new GLVC program Maryville University in St Louis.

There are 24 players from 12 Class 3 programs. The Kickapoo Chiefs have the largest representation with 4 players but it should be noted 10 of these players have signed to play college ball.

We have one unaffiliated player this year. Jessica Roberts played one year for the Kickapoo Chiefs as a freshman and made a significant impact in that lone season of high school soccer. She and her family moved to Mountain Grove which does not offer any high school soccer but Jessica has maintained her commitment to the sport by playing Club soccer here in Springfield. We are happy to include her in advance of her plans to play College soccer at the IL Institute of Technology, an NAIA program.

There are four goalies, with Lauren Cook of Class 1 Greenwood, Sara Cook of Class 2 Bolivar joining Class 3 representatives Shannon Johnson of Kickapoo and Ashley Bartkoski of Neosho. Ashley will join her brother Scott in being the first brother-sister All-Star representatives. Scott represented Neosho in goal in the first All-Star game in 2003.

Please congratulate the 4th Annual Lady All-Stars!

Missouri High School Girls Soccer: Class 2 District 5

Bolivar Liberators – 3
Warrensburg Tigers – 0
Senior Jody McFarlen scores a pair and Jonna Welch gets one as the Liberators win their first District title. There’s a good write up on the game at the Warrensburg website, also a good representation of what a good team website can be.

This is the first District title ever for the Lady Liberator’s and they now advance to the Quarterfinal in Warrensburg a week from Thursday. They face the winner of Notre Dame de Sion vs Pembroke Hill game. And they’ll have some out-of-town support in their pursuit of a State Championship berth as both Harrisonville and Warrensburg have commented on their sites.

As Warrensburg wraps up their season, read a bit further into their website to learn more about their Pink Game.

“Our kids chose SPX as the Senior Night and Pink game opponent as they knew they would get to play a great team that would bring out the best in us. They also respect the class that SPX, Coach Ashby, and their supporters bring to the field.”

“Pink it Up! was a great success. When all the contributions are entered in we’ll finalize how much we raised for the Johnson County Cancer Foundation (over $5000 according to Coach Thompson). SPX became a part and raised $1,300 at their school for our cause, which is incredible. Our school and community embraced the cause and we are extremely thankful.”

Missouri High School Girls Soccer: Class 3 Districts 10 and 11

Rolla Bulldogs – 0
Jeff City Jays - 1
District 10 Final, JC scored the lone goal with 2:17 left in the game. The Bulldogs finish their season 16-7-3.

MO Class 3 District 11: Kickapoo Chiefs Shut Out Ozark Tigers
Kickapoo Chiefs – 2
Ozark Tigers – 0
Abby Anderson by PK at start of the 2nd half after both teams had a pair of shots that were smothered by the respective keepers in the 1st.

MO Class3 District 11: Glendale Falcons defeat Nixa Eagles
Glendale Falcons – 3
Nixa Eagles – 0
In the first District 11 semifinal, the Falcons finally penetrated a well-organized Eagles defense when junior Lindsey Sprouse collected a poor goal kick, turned one defender and hammered her shot off the underside of the crossbar and across the endline in the 38th minute.

Sprouse had one earlier opportunity in the 30th when Emily Cline ran down a lose ball near the endline. Her cross into the 6 yard box was headed over the crossbar. Otherwise it was the Eagles that tantalized. They almost broke through in the 21st when Rachel Murphy hammered a ball off the near upright following a corner kick. The ball bounced off the keeper before being cleared. In the 32nd a breakaway, led by Kelsey Bartell when she grabbed an errant corner and turned her defender before racing up the right side might have sent Murphy in alone but for freshman Alix Opfer anticipating well.

Junior Emilee Williams scores via a direct kick from 25 yards out in the 44th minute. She does it again in the 51st, this time from the right side.

Youth Soccer Training In Rolla Saturday – U7 and U8 Boys and Girls

The Rolla Knights Soccer Club and the Rolla Area Youth Soccer League (RAYSL), with the approval of the Optimist Soccer League, will conduct a soccer skills clinic for U7 and U8 players (those born during the period Aug. 1,2000 through July 31, 2002).

The clinic is slated for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 23 at the Ber Juan Park soccer field.

Denny Vaninger, Missouri Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) Coaching Director, will be the clinic instructor. MYSA is the state organization for Missouri soccer that is sanctioned by the United States Youth Soccer Association. Vaninger is in charge of training and licensing MYSA sanctioned coaches in Missouri.

Players especially sought for the clinic are those who have developed a good feel for the game, enjoy playing soccer and want to advance their soccer skills to a higher level.

The clinic is free of charge.

Parents and optimist coaches are welcome to attend as observers.

Youth interested in attending should show up at Ber Juan Park soccer field no later than 9:45 a.m. In case of rain the clinic will be held indoors, so players are asked to bring tennis shoes in addition to cleats.

Missouri High School Girls Soccer: Class 1 District 6 Semifinal Round

MO Class 1 District 6: McAuley Warriors Storm Back Against Greenwood Blue Jays
#3 McAuley Warriors – 4
#2 Greenwood Blue Jays – 3
In a game that mirrors the regular season match up between these two schools, it was McAuley that storms back from a 3-1 deficit to first tie, and finally win the match this evening. A replica of Greenwood’s results at McAuley in late April. Greenwood set the tone early when Maddie Esther buried a shot from 35 yards out in the 3rd minute of the match. Midway through the half, freshman Sara Cook got through the defense and scored to push the Jay’s ahead as they put together a beautiful game for the first 30 minutes tonight. Ball movement, team defense, it was all there but slowly the Warriors clawed their way back into the game. The first goal was scored in stoppage time in the first half and came from senior Jae Stephens as the Warriors fought to keep the ball in the offensive end following a corner kick and Jae put a loose ball into the roof of the net.

The Jay’s came out strong again in the 2nd half, extending their lead to 2 yet again when Mariah Allai received a pass on the left side of the box and slid her shot to the far post in the 47th minute. There was plenty of action for both teams in the remaining 30 minutes but the momentum, and the win, went to the upstarts. The Warriors got their 2nd goal in the 53rd minute when senior Arielle Santillan finally broke free of the Jay’s tough defense and her shot as she entered the box went just inside the right upright. The Jay’s still had a one goal lead and midway through the half were awarded a PK for a push in the box. Sarah Onstot was able to dive to her right and push the PK wide of the net however and you could begin to sense that maybe things might not go Greenwood’s way. When Santillan got past the defense and knocked her shot in off the right upright in the 68th minute, the tension was palable. It was the Warrior’s who responded to the situation as their team of 13 did not quit. When they earned a corner kick in the final three minutes, it was the third shot that did in the Jays as sophomore Samantha Graham was able to corral an attempted clearance and push it back into the box where senor Erin O’Keefe was able to react to the ball and lift it into the roof of the net above the charging keeper.

Quite a game and a testament to the effort and teamwork that McAuley was able to display. For Greenwood, a difficult lesson made all the more harsh by the quality of play they showed in the first third of the game.

Missouri High School Girls Soccer: Class 3 District 12 Semifinal Round

#2 Neosho Wildcats – 3
#3 Central Bulldogs – 0
A pair of goals from Brittany Copeland, around a goal by Shelby Murray, led the Wildcats past Central.

#1 Joplin Eagles – 6
#4 Hillcrest Hornets – 0
Goals were scored by Meghan Matheson, Kelsey Sanders, Autumn Lewis, Danielle Lagow, Lauren Copple and Mikaila Craig.

The Eagles and Wildcats will face off for the third time this season in the Final on Thursday at 6pm. Cody Thorn of the Neosho Daily News summarized the first two meetings and got some feedback from Coach Schnackenberg

Joplin won the first game 3-2 at a game at Joplin High School earlier this year. The game went into overtime tied 2-2 and then another overtime. After five penalty kicks couldn’t settle the tie, Joplin won it in sudden death PKs.

“I think the first loss was the coach’s fault for not putting the right people in PK, maybe I should’ve changed it around,” Schnackenberg said.

The second meeting was in the Neosho Tournament championship game and Joplin prevailed 1-0 in overtime.

“We have been wanting a rematch since the second loss when they took our tournament championship away from us,” Schnackenberg said. “I think it will be a great district final. Maybe we can get revenge for the losses.

Springfield S.C. 96/97 Red Boys Capture U12 Gold Division at KC Select Mother’s Day Classic

ssc-96-97-red-boys-championsThe Springfield Soccer Club sent seven teams to the KC Select Mother’s Day Classic in Liberty, MO. Highlighting the weekend were the Springfield S.C. 95/96 II Girls advancing to the Semi-Finals of the U13 Silver Division and the Springfield S.C. 96/97 Red Boys capturing the Boys U12 Gold Division Title (pictured).

It has been difficult for many of the area teams to get any type of consistency of play with the unpredictable weather this spring, but all of the Springfield Soccer Club teams were able to find some bright spots with their play in Kansas City. “This is our second year attending this tournament which is co-hosted by KC Select and Blue Valley SC. It allows our teams to get a glimpse into future opponents as our team’s progress into the Heartland Soccer League in Kansas City as they get older. It was a well-run tournament and an exciting opportunity to play some games at William Jewell College where some of our club alumni came out to support the club and see the future stars play.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations.

The SSC 96/97 Red U12 Boys highlighted the weekend by taking home the Championship in the Under 12 Boys Gold Division. This is the second tournament Championship for the team after they already won the GSASC Champions Challenge in March. An exciting Final saw the team receive valuable minutes from everyone on the roster as they defeated the host club KC Select 2-1 with a late second half goal to seal the victory. “Overall it was a great weekend for the team as they played some good soccer and also found ways to get results. I am proud of their effort during the winter months to make improvements and they are starting to see how it can pay off” said Alumbaugh who coaches the team along with Tom Giovanni.

Coming off of their own successful outing in the Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr. Pepper Cup the SSC 95/96 II Girls lost in the Semi-Finals to Midwest Express in a hard fought game. All teams will finish up their spring Lake Country League games within the next few weeks. Visit the club website www.springfieldsportsclub.com for more information on the Springfield Soccer Club.
