Class 3 Preview

Class 3 Sectionals are being played throughout the State this evening. Locally, we’ll see District 12 winner Joplin visiting to take on District 11 winner Glendale. This is the first ever District title for the Lady Eagles and Coach Ed Miller chats with the Joplin Globe about that historic win and the upcoming game. Check out the video of that chat.

Game time is 6:30 pm tonight at Cooper #1

Moving North, District 10 Champion’s Jefferson City host a familiar foe in the Rockbridge Kewpies Bruins, District 9 Champions. As the Columbia Daily Tribune noted: What a difference a coaching change makes. Off to a 1-4 start when Coach Kelly Gates resigned last month, Rock Bridge morphed into a postseason contender under former assistant and current Coach Marc VanDover. The Bruins (11-13) will play a Class 3 sectional at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, traveling to Jefferson City to face the rival Jays (13-10) at 3:30 p.m. at 179 Soccer Park.

The winner advances to a 2 p.m. quarterfinal on May 30 at Missouri-Science and Technology in Rolla against either Glendale or Joplin.

In St Louis, the Post-Dispatch notes just five of their top-10 large schools and only four top-10 small schools are still playing following Districts. This article outlines the upsets and the games being played tonight.
