Lauren Copple Signs With Northeastern Oklahoma

img_2443From the Joplin Globe: Lauren Copple, headed for a fourth season of soccer at Joplin High School, signed a letter of intent with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College of Miami on Tuesday. Copple, primarily a goalie as a freshman, will be operating for the third season as a midfielder/forward this spring for Joplin, Eagle coach Ed Miller said.

NEO coach Lisa Bell, who noted that Copple will be a part of NEO’s second season of soccer, came to Joplin for the ceremony. “I have high hopes for our second season,” Bell said. “We should have nine or 10 players returning. Lauren (Copple) is projected as a midfielder,” Bell said. “But her position really will depend on just how well she fits into the mix. She could be one of our first players off the bench.”

Said Copple (who plans to study nursing): “I believe I can cope with about any position to help the team.” “She really got along with our kids during her visit to our campus,” Bell said.

Said Miller: “Lauren has played a lot of soccer and definitely understands the game. She needs to work on becoming faster and quicker at the next level. The teams will be faster. Everything will become quicker-paced. “I’m confident she can make the adjustment,” Mlller said. “She works very hard.”

If you’re looking for something more local in nature, its a beautiful night to head over to Lake Country Soccer, Cooper field #2 and take in everyone’s favorite derby – Kickapoo vs Glendale. It’s #3 at #1 and of course bragging rights between the South side schools.

Missouri Girls High School Soccer: Class 3 Southwest Regional Poll

The new District alignment apparently has created some confusion as to the regional polls, thus the lack of recent news. Here’s the first of what I believe to be the Southwest Region Poll.

1. Glendale
2. Ozark
3. Kickapoo
4. Nixa
5. Parkview

For the Class 2 and Class 1 teams, you need to talk to your Coaches about their participation in the MO Soccer Coaches organization (which also is responsible for the All-State teams) and taking the time to poll.

FC Springfield and SpringHigh Select Merge

fc-springfield-badge-whiteNews Release
Re: Combining of FC Springfield and SpringHigh Select

We are pleased to announce that, effective June 2009, FC Springfield and SpringHigh Select will combine their soccer clubs to expand youth development teams, and to continue to grow a competitive soccer club for high school aged players.

FC Springfield was established in June of 2008 by Clint and Cliff Nurnberg. The club provides experienced coaching and player-focused growth through organized training sessions and equitable game time for youth development teams.

SpringHigh Select was founded in 2005 by Jeff Rogers, Rick Temple, and Coach Alf Bilbao, to provide training, league, and competitive tournament play to high school boys during the off season of high school soccer.

According to FC Springfield’s Club Director, Cliff Nurnberg, the combining of the clubs will provide the soccer community with a player-focused club that will provide seamless affiliation from youth to high school levels. “SpringHigh Select and FC Springfield have performed as soccer programs run like a business, rather than a business built around a soccer program. The combining of our programs will provide players and families a healthy, economical, and instructive program that is capable of serving kids from their pre-K years through high school graduation.”

The new club will be called FC Springfield, with the high school boys’ teams continuing to play with the SpringHigh Select name and uniforms, adding a FC Springfield logo. The club will continue to utilize Drury soccer players and other experienced area coaches to assist in player training. Plans include the continuation of the boys’ teams from the U7 to U19 age ranges, with Coaches Alf Bilbao and Ryan Swan to continue coaching the high school boys. In addition, the club plans to add at least one high school girls’ team. Some FC Springfield youth development teams are coed in nature, and additional girls’ teams may be established in the future depending on interest.

Tuesday’s Ozarks Girls High School Soccer Report

Bolivar Liberators Shut Out District Foe Marshfield Jays
Marshfield Blue Jays – 0
Bolivar Liberators – 3
A Class 2 District 5 matchup, video tomorrow. below.
The Liberators solidified their hold on a top seed in the District last night by shutting out their closest local opponent. Freshman Sarah Magana got the game-winner in the 1st half and in the second, the Liberators swarmed all over the Jays. The game was close because of the efforts of Morgan Horman in goal who stood in the path of breakaways by Jonna Welch and Jody McFarlen and knocked down crosses and anything else that seemed to come her way.

It would be the 63rd minute before the Liberators broke it down further, with Sarah Magana running onto a ball that Jonna Welch had knocked off the underside of the crossbar. As the keeper looked for it, Sarah pushed the ball across the line with her body. The final goal was scored by Jonna on a header, from Jody McFarlen’s corner kick.

The Jays have one of the strongest teams I can recall, beginning with sophomore Alex Cantrell who roams the field going where needed. Unfortunately, the Bolivar Lady Liberators have reached new heights themselves and could be positioned to go beyond Districts. I know the Liberators have a defense and midfield, led by their captains (see interview below) and #9 at sweeper but these team seems to be all about going forward. Once a ball is won, it seems the entire team sweeps forward in an effort to score.

Waynesville Tigers – 0

Rachel LaRue scored a goal early in the second hafl before Kirvan added another goal 3 minutes later. Kayla Utley scored the final goal late in the match. Sandra Shore and Jessica Colliver split time in the goal for the Lady Lakers.
