Heather Morgan Balven and son Jack
Friends of Balven, 31, mourned her Friday as a talented woman, a standout in her childhood hometown of Waynesville, Mo., who was giddy with the recent news that she was three months pregnant with her second child. Balven had a 2-year-old son.
In addition to playing soccer for the Tigers, Balven served as the president of the senior class. “She was an all-around girl. One of our golden girls,” said Hardman, a retired history teacher.
Very tragic indeed. Heather was a wonderful young lady and a loving mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Morgan and Balven families.
I was terribly saddened to hear about Nelson and his family’s loss. My condolences to all family members and especially Nelson who I have found to be a fantastic person in and out of the soccer arena. Peace be with you.
The Missouri S&T soccer program sends it’s condolences to the Morgan and Balven families for their loss.
The alumnae also express their sadness for the loss of a former teammate.
Betty and I sincerely appreciate your kind words over the loss of our wonderful daughter. Heather was a loving wife and mother. She loved soccer and worked hard to reach her dream of being an engineer. We will never know what all she may have accomplished, but a friend of ours said, “Heather didn’t need a whole life to get it right.” Thanks again and God Bless.

Nelson and Betty I am also greatly saddened by the loss of your wonderful daughter. Having experienced it myself I know there is no greater loss in life than that of a parent losing a child. All of us who know and love you share in you grief and offer our deepest sympathy.
