Chris Rogers Resigns As Carthage Tigers Boys Coach

Central Ozarks Conference: Nixa Eagles vs Carthage Tigers Excellent story in the Carthage Press today by Cody Dyer on Head Coach Chris Rogers’ decision to resign for personal reasons. The story offers background on that as well as he long time relationship with the team

“I played on the first team, I was an assistant when we won our first district championship, I was an assistant coach when we went to the state tournament for the first time and I was head coach when we won our first district title in Class 3. These are all great accomplishments for this program and I am very proud to have been a part of them.”

Rogers may be resigning as head coach of the men’s program, but he will still be involved in soccer at CHS.

“I am looking forward to spending time with my family in the fall,” Rogers said. “I am also looking forward to the challenge of building a new soccer program for the girls. I will use all my experiences with the boys’ team to try and build a girls’ team that is as successful as our boys’ team.”

The photo above is from halftime of the game against Nixa this past season, one of the few Carthage lost during a fine season. Chris is on the far left addressing the team.

Springfield Soccer Represents – Sexy Springfield

Marshfield Blue Jays vs Catholic Fightin' IrishI’ve been deliquent – I didn’t realize the Springfield Soccer community was full of sexy beasts. At least that’s what our friends at Springfield Go have determined in their Sexy Springfield issue

Public official – Scott Bailes

Okay, so he hasn’t been elected yet, but the former Cleveland Indians, California Angels and Texas Ranger lefty is running unopposed this spring for a Springfield City Council seat. He’s past his playing days, but the face is the same. And you know what they say about a man in uniform…

Honorable mention: City attorney Dan Wichmer; State Rep. Sara Lampe (wore Palin glasses before Palin glasses were Palin glasses).

If you haven’t been paying attention, Bailes is padre to current MSU Bear Tara Bailes while Dan Wichmer (in the blue cap in the back right in this photo) is President of the Lake Country Soccer Board of Directors and there was a time when you couldn’t visit LCS without seeing a youth player wearing a Sara Lampe tshirt.

And I’d be negligent if I didn’t mention the man behind the camera for the Drury Panthers, who’s daughter Paige spent a year on the Panther’s roster.

Radio Duo Honorable mention: Scott Puryear and Ned Reynolds

US Soccer Pursuing 2018 or 2022 World Cup Host Opportunity

From the US Soccer press release this afternoon:

US LogoU.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati announced on Monday afternoon that the U.S. Soccer Federation has officially submitted a declaration of interest to host either the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, and that David Downs will be the Executive Director of the USA Bid Committee. Downs, who will start immediately, previously served as President of Univision Sports from 2001-2009.

The entire bid process will span 16-months, with FIFA setting May 2010 as the deadline for countries to submit their final paperwork. FIFA’s 24-man Executive Committee will then review each bid and name the two hosts for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups in December 2010.

Gulati will serve as the Chair of the Bid Committee, with U.S. Soccer CEO Dan Flynn, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Phil Murphy, the former National Finance Chair of the Democratic National Committee, as the other initial members of the Committee. Other members of the USA Bid Committee will be announced in the near future.

“I’m pleased to announce we have submitted our interest to FIFA to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cups,” said Gulati. “The World Cup is the greatest sporting event in the world, and to have the opportunity to host it once again is an honor, but also an incredible challenge. We are confident we can put together a successful bid to host another impressive event, and invite fans from around the world to enjoy the world’s game in our country.”
