Happy Hogmanay

Aye ye lads and lasses, Happy Hogmanay. I’m getting my celebration on in St Louis but the weekend will be an opportunity to get caught up on the post-season recognition the college players received. Need to complete that list so that I can incorporate it into my decisions on the annual Top 10 list that will come out Monday January 5th. But it’s January 1st now so are any of you bringing good-luck to your friends by being the first-foot?

In the meantime, here are some final pointers to 2008.

Grant Wahl, Sports Illustrated, looks at his Moment of the Year

Spain’s 1-0 win over Germany in the Euro 2008 final in June gave the Spaniards their first European championship since 1964 (and second major trophy in their country’s history).

Ollie Irish on Big Soccer offers his Personal Highlights, opening with

1. John Terry’s penalty miss in the Champions League final
I don’t like John Terry BigSoccer Topics much. I don’t like his chavvy hairstyle, I don’t like his yobbish past, I don’t like his parking etiquette, I don’t like the way he always calls Frank Lampard BigSoccer Topics ‘Lampsy’ and Wayne Rooney BigSoccer Topics ‘Wazza’. I do like the fact that Terry has to live forever with the knowledge that he choked from the penalty spot – yeah, he slipped, but he slipped because he choked – in the biggest match of his career. I like that a lot.

and finishing here.

Oh, and I’ve been trying to ensure that I recognize some of the career records that were set at the High School level. If you have a boy or a girl player who set school records in 2008, send me a reminder :)
