Update – the Laquey players were confirmed and have been added as noted in the comments. I also feel the need to address a question I had – Levi Millsap, Sophomore GK for the Catholic Fightin’ Irish, split time in goal this season with senior Matt Simpson and sophomore Brandon Kratz. So in the first round of discussion among the coaches, he was noted as Honorable Mention in the District.
The Player of the Year discussion follows that and due to his play in the District and State playoffs, where he was the starter, Levi received the coaches votes as the GK of the Year. Unusual but I like it. I’ve gotten to know Levi over the past several years, beginning with his active efforts to support the Missouri State Bears by working as a ball boy on a regular basis during his Middle School seasons. He became a goalkeeper just this year and as a student of the game recognizes he has plenty of development ahead of him. The Honorable Mention ranking reflects that. The Goalkeeper award also reflects the role he played in the teams success in the post-season. My favorite quote of the season this year was by freshman midfielder Luke Strauss to the News-Leader’s Justin McMillin (a stringer, no starters for soccer that evening despite the double-header at Cooper) following the District win over Greenwood.
“Our defense played very well and they are the strength of our team,” Straus said. “Levi plays his own game. I don’t know how to describe it. I’ve never played with a guy like that but he’s good back there.”
So congratulations. Now if we could have just gotten the Coaches to pick a GK for the first and second team, rather than having sophomores Hawken Thieme and Michael Gloden, second year starters for Greenwood and NCA respectively, also end up with HM. Even if the votes are split, each category deserves a GK representative.

Where are the two honorable mention players which we were asked to provide.
#7 Tyler Smith, Soph, MF and #25 David Jennings, Jr., MF
