Congratulations to the Springfield Catholic Fightin’ Irish and the Glendale Falcons for reaching the State Final 4.
It is the first trip for the Irish, in their second year of play, matching the Crocker Lion’s achievement last year as a 2nd year team. The girls team has reached the Final 4 three times, in 1999, 2003 and 2004, finishing 4th, 3rd and 2nd respectively on those three visits.
This is the Falcon’s third visit to the Final 4, with a pair of 4th place finishes in 1991 and 1994. Falcon’s assistant coach Josh Keisker, along with Eric Pacyniak and Jared Jaegar, were named to the All-State team that season.
On Thursday at 6:00 pm, the Falcon’s are holding a reception in the Glendale cafeteria with food, drinks and cake for all past, present and future Glendale Falcons players and families. We would specifically like to invite all players from the 1991 & 1994 Final Four teams to attend this celebration.
The Final 4 schedule has changed this year. In the past, the Class 1 and 2 Final’s were played a week prior to the Class 3 Finals. With the addition of a third class in girls soccer, MSHSAA has decided to turn the state final four for boys and girls into a one-weekend event.

Semifinal action will be held on Friday, beginning at 11 a.m. On Saturday, the third-place games as well as one title match — the Class 1 and Class 2 championship match will rotate each year — will be played in a morning-early afternoon session. A second Saturday session, featuring the other two title matches, will be held in the evening.

I’m planning on covering all of the Class 1 and Class 3 games. On a related note, I may be wearing Star’s gear as my sisters are both graduates of McCluer North (I had already graduated HS when we moved to Missour’ah in 1974) and my parents taught at McCluer North for 30 years combined. Dad was the Golf Coach and handled Football statistics during much of that time so I know he’ll be there in spirit with me during the games
