Lake Country Soccer logoLake Country Soccer’s Men’s Sunday Amateur Champion, finalist and consolation teams will be determined this coming Sunday, November 16th at Cooper Stadium. Deportiva Patol faces Tierra Nueva in the consolation match scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm. Union Latina and Arsenal face off in the championship match at 2:30pm.

Arsenal advances to the final with a 1-0 win over Tierra Nueva in the first semifinal game. Blake Stinnet (Glendale 2005) scored the game’s only goal in the 28th minute, which came from an Arsenal corner kick and a rebounded ball just outside the six which Stinnet easily slammed home. Arsenal continues as the lone, non-Mexican team in the league featuring local soccer players who have appeared at area high schools and colleges in the late 90’s.

Union Latina and Deportiva Patol battled to a 0-0 draw through a feisty and contentious 90 minutes which yielded several yellow cards and two red cards. Per league rules (as utilized in Mexican professional league soccer), the higher seeded team (Union Latina was the # 1 seed) advances in the event of a tie. Deportiva Patol was the #4 seed. Deportiva Patol won the spring 2008 championship game by defeating Arsenal 3-1 in July. Union Latina features the league’s “Golden Boot” winner, Mateos Silva which is awarded to player for the most goals scored in the regular season as well as Jonathon Marquez who heads up the Magic Soccer Club. Union Latina also was one of two teams which were awarded the Sportsmanship Award that recognizes the team or teams earning the fewest yellow and red cards in the season. San Luis was also recognized for their sportsmanship.
