Thursday And Our Opportunities Overflow

A few reminders about some fine soccer to be had in the region this evening:

The Missouri State Bears host the #9 ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane this evening. Game time is 7:00 pm at Plaster Stadium. Tulsa enters the match with a No. 9 national ranking and a 12-3-2 record, averaging 2.0 goals a game. Tulsa is led by Austin Neil with eight goals on the season, while goalkeeper Tyrel Lacey who has six shutouts and has only allowed 11 goals.

Class 1 District 6 Final – 6:00 pm at Cooper #1
Featuring Springfield Catholic and the Greenwood Blue Jays, this game has everything you could ask for. This derby can rival any in the region and both squads are playing their best soccer now, when it matters most. The winner should represent the region at State beginning Friday November 21st.

Class 3 District 11 Final – 8:00 pm at Cooper #1
Kickapoo Chiefs vs Glendale Falcons, the 3rd game this season between the two teams. Kickapoo has won both matches so far this season but is missing Ian Kennedy due to a broken collarbone. Combine that with the difficulty of winning all three games in a season and there is enough to keep fans of both teams interested.

Class 2 District 5 Final – 5:30 pm at Bolivar HS
I’ll let the Liberatorsoccer.com website tell the story – For the second year in a row, the Liberators will face the Cassville Wildcats for a district Championship. This is the third year in a row the Liberators have reached the final. In 2006, they were defeated by West Plains 1-0 on that ever famous controversial goal. Last season, Cassville defeated the Liberators 2-1. Will the third time be a charm for the Liberators? Or as a Cassville commentor noted – Cassville has been in 4 out of the last 5 district finals missing out on the 2006 final hosted at Willard.

The winner will travel to Harrisonville next Thursday for a Quarterfinal match against Pembroke Hill, winners over Harrisonville last night. A complete write up on the game is available here, as a comment on my site :)

Class 3 District 10 Final – 5:30 pm at Rolla HS
The Rolla Bulldogs return to Final, an annual objective for a team that knows what it means to win this title. They’ll face the Camdenton Lakers, who will still remember the 2001 Title game loss to the Bulldogs. That, and the 9-0 smack down on October 21st, but they’ve recovered from that experience to reach the Final.

The winner will face the Jefferson City Jays on Tuesday November 11th in Jeff City. The Jays defeated Columbia Hickman last night 2-1 in OT.

Class 3 District 12 Final – 6:00 pm at Willard HS
The Carthage Tigers and Joplin Eagles will renew their rivalry, one enhanced by the Tigers move into Class 3 soccer this season. After splitting their two games this season, there will be no shortage of motivation for both squads. The winner will face the winner of the Kickapoo vs Glendale game on Tuesday November 11th at Cooper.
