The Barton County Men’s soccer team completed an undefeated regular season this week with three conference wins. Last Wednesday Barton knocked off Neosho County 5-0, Sunday the Cougars defeated Kansas City (KS) CC by a count of 4-0, and last night dominated Independence CC 6-1 while sitting numerous starters. Springfield Demize midfielder Oscar Narvaez recorded 2 assists in this stretch breaking the school assist record with a total of 11 on the season.
In the most recent national rankings, Barton moved up to #2 nationally, the highest ranking ever achieved by any team out of the Jayhawk Conference (Kansas). Also, Barton wrapped up another Jayhawk Conference championship with a conference record of 10-0-1, and an overall season record of 18-0-1. They are one of only two undefeated teams at this point, #1 Yavapai College out of Arizona being the other.
Barton will play their first playoff game as the first seed in the regional playoffs, hosting either Cowley College or Hesston College in the first round at 3 pm in Great Bend, Kansas. Barton defeated the two teams in the regular season by a combined score of 14-0. From there, the regional semifinals and finals will be held in Topeka, Kansas at the Hummer Sports Complex on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2. The men’s games Saturday will be held at noon and 2 pm, with Sundays final being at 1 pm.

Locally, the Crowder College Roughriders will face the East Central Falcons in a semifinal game in Region 16. The game will be played Friday at 2:00 pm at St Louis Community College at Forest Park, across Highway 40 from Forest Park and just West of the Science Center. The winner will advance to the Final on Sunday against either Jefferson College or Blue River (KC).
The Falcon’s recently claimed the MCCAC Conference Title, finishing 15-4-1 and 4-1 in the conference. This is third conference crown for East Central College Men’s Soccer with the other two coming in 2001 and 2005. The team includes Spencer Hunter (Ozark 2007) at stopper.
The Roughriders finished the season 6-9-2, winning their last two as well as the Quarterfinal game, giving them a three game winning streak going into their game Friday. The team includes Matt Arnold (Carthage 2008), Preston Bates (Kickapoo 2008), Luke Bayless (Carthage 2008), James Carter (Neosho 2008), Cal Lane (Neosho 2008), Anthony Larson (Cassville 2008), Justin Rogers (Glendale 2008), Sam Speck (Neosho 2008), Ryan Toombs (Bolivar 2008), David Valenciano (Monett 2007) and Hector Valenzuela (Cassville 2008).
