Happy Columbus Day! I’m traveling, in fact I may have to celebrate the day on “The Hill” in St Louis where I’m guaranteed some fine Italian. I’m also time constrained so lets dive in…
Three weeks remain in the High School regular season, so it’s too early to declare any winners but there are a few games that will have a large impact on some races.
On Tuesday, Rolla visits Glendale. The Bulldogs will be looking for a win to keep them in the Ozark Conference race.
There are a pair of games on Thursday with meaning. The Carthage Tigers visit the Nixa Eagles and the winner will be in the drivers seat when it comes to the Central Ozark Conference large school race.
With New Covenant visiting Springfield Catholic on Thursday, the seeding for the Class 1 District 6 playoffs may be determined. Catholic defeated Greenwood earlier this season and one of these three teams will get the top berth.
This weekend, Columbia Hickman and Columbia Rock Bridge visit, with games against Glendale and Kickapoo on Friday and Saturday. The Hickman Kewpies appear to be the early leaders in Class 3 District 9, offering a preview of the potential Quarterfinal opponent for the winner of the Springfield Sectional. That list probably consists of Kickapoo, Glendale and Rolla so if you’re inclined to make up your own mind, rather then accepting my suggestions (breathe slowly, look into my eyes…) then get out Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week like I do and then offer your opinion.
Oh, and a shout out to the Jeff City Jay’s who are hosting their tournament this weekend. If I didn’t have a business commitment on Saturday morning, I’d be up there to catch #3 Rockhurst playing #1 CBC at 10:45 am. The Parkview Vikings will face Rockhurst on Friday and Blue Valley Northwest on Saturday as participants in the Capitol City Classic. The complete schedule is here.
Plenty of College games this week as well.
Tuesday the Southwest Bearcats host the Quincy Hawks
Wednesday the Missouri Southern Lions host Northeastern State in the 2nd of 4 straight home Conference matches. The Lions could use your support!
Thursday the Missouri Southern Lions visit Bolivar to play SBU in an MIAA game
This weekend the Drury Panthers and the Missouri S&T Miners are both home and feature GLVC conference opponents.
Friday Lewis visits Drury while Quincy will be in Rolla. The Ladies play at 5:00 pm, the men at 7:30 pm at both locations.
Sunday Quincy heads to Rolla for games at 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm while the Lady Panthers host future GLVC opponent Maryville in a 2:00 pm game.
The Missouri State Lady Bears will host MVC opponent, the Creighton Blue Jays, on Sunday afternoon at noon. Plaster Stadium is the site.
Finally, from the Glendale Soccer website:
Congratulations to Devon Newport who netted his 22nd goal of the season on Tuesday at Lebanon. He has now surpassed Falcons Assistant Coach Josh Keisker for the second most goals scored in a season by a Glendale boy. The record is held by Jason Price who scored 41 goals as a senior in 1990.
Devon’s now up to 25 following the weekend tournament.
