Bolstered by a stoppage time goal, the the Tigers took the title in their eponymous tournament. It was a somewhat sedate affair given the rivalry these two teams have had in the past, a function of Willard’s move to Class 3 and the COC Large School categories. It’s also a reflection of the competitive balance I’ve seen this year. In the end, the difference was former Bolivar Liberator Marian Lup, who was able to maintain his balance as a defender and the goal keeper collided in the box and he was able to collect the loose ball and slot it into the open net in the 60th for the ultimate game winner. He scored a 2nd in stoppage time as the defense was caught moving forward for an equalizer. The photo was post-game, limited by cell phone toting parents and others unconcerned about broader coverage opportunities for their boys.
Monett Cubs - 2
Cassville Wildcats - 0
The Cubs’ got a pair of goals from junior Jose Lopez this afternoon to keep their record against the Wildcats at 3-0 this year, a 180 degree turn from last year. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating opportunities. Monett came close late in the 1st half when Mauricio Trujillo got into the box and around the GK but Nashe Lugeanbeal followed the play and cleared the shot off the line. The Cub’s broke through in the 59th minute when Jose Lopez created space in the box and put his shot beyond the keeper’s reach. He got a 2nd goal in the 73rd when senior captain Humberto Morales collected a clearance by the defense, looked up and sent Lopez in with a beautiful diagonal ball that split the defense, allowing Jose to break in alone on the GK.

Webb City Cardinals - 1
The Warriors used Saturday to recharge their offense after Friday’s frustrating loss to Cassville.
Bolivar Liberators - 5
Cassville Wildcats - 1
The Liberators won their second game of the tournament in an 8am game.
Willard Tigers - 3 (PK’s)
Monett Cubs - 2
The game required two overtimes and the penalty kicks went 8 deep before a winner could be determined.

Log-Rog Wildcats - 0
Webb City Cardinals - 3
A 2nd meeting for the two teams, following LogRog’s historic 1st win two weeks ago which came against the Cardinals. Saturday was a different story as the Cardinal’s evened their record against the Wildcats.

From the Gateway City City Soccer Classic in Collinsville Ill, Glendale over Dunbar High from Lexington Ky in penalty kicks again after a 2-2 tie in regulation. Both goals were by Devon Newport on set pieces. Jordan Pitts comes up big for the second day in a row with a save in the pk shoot out . Ryan Partch nailed the final pk attempt to seal the win. Next up, the championship game at 2:45. Injuries are begining to stack up so next game will be a battle. Great job guys.

Glendale falls to St Thomas Aquinas 2-1 in the championship game. A near miss in the final minute almost ties it up. 3 very tough games against top level competition within 24 hours. Well done boys. Rest and get healed up for next weekend.
