BOYS SOCCER POLL (09-26-08)

    Class 3

Rank Team Points
1 CBC (9) - 135
2 Rockhurst – 119
3 Vianney - 117
4 SLUH – 100
5 Ft. Zumwalt West - 95
6 Oak Park - 90
7 Kickapoo - 85
8 Chaminade - 67
9 Glendale - 61
10 Lee’s Summit West - 48
11 DeSmet - 45
12 Howell Central - 29
13 Lee’s Summit North - 23
14 Blue Springs - 21
15 Lee’s Summit - 20
Others: Eureka 15, Ft. Zumwalt South 10, Hickman 8, Howell North 3, Lafayette 1

This is the best early ranking, as far as Southwest Missouri teams are concerned, that I can recall. The glow of Kickapoo’s run to their 3rd place finish last year along with their recent first ever win over Chaminade play a role, as did Glendale’s KS-MO Champions Tourney title this year. Still early however, with CBC sure to fall following their loss to SLUH on Friday at the Guelker Tournament.

St. Louis University High withstood the Cadets’ fast start and fought its way to a 2-1 victory in the semifinals of the Meyer Division of the 54th annual CYC/Bob Guelker Memorial Tournament at Anheuser-Busch Center. The two-time defending tournament champion, SLUH (11-2) will meet Vianney (10-1-1) for the title at 7:30 tonight.

Next step will be to look at the teams coming in for the Kickapoo Shootout in two weeks, including Vianney. And according to this poll, it would appear that the Hickman Kewpies are the team to beat in District 9.

    Class 2

Rank Team
1 St. Dominic (7) - 106
2 Cape Notre Dame (3) - 91
3 Priory - 90
4 Duchesne - 76
5 St. Mary’s - 46
6 Moberly - 43
7 Smithville - 40
8 Perryville - 26
9 Helias - 19
10 Lutheran South - 18
Others: Bolivar 13, Staley 10, Warrensburg 9, MICDS 6, Affton 4, Marshall 3, Harrisonville 2, Westminster 1

Bolivar Liberators get the early nod in the region. I wonder how things are going at their Classic this weekend?

    Class 1

Rank Team
1 John Burroughs (7) - 70
2 Principia - 55
3 Whitfield - 50
4 Trinity - 44
5 Springfield Catholic - 42
6 St. Pius (KC) - 35
7 Barstow - 24
8 New Covenant Academy - 23
9 St. Paul Lutheran - 14
10 Sacred Heart - 8
Others: Lee’s Summit Christian 7, MMA 6, Saxony-Lutheran 6, Gateway Academy 1

The strong starts that both Springfield Catholic and New Covenant Academy have had gain recognition from their peers across the state. October 16th is the date of the game isn’t it?

  1. Pat Taggart says:

Congratulations to the four Springfield schools rated in the top 10 in class 1 and 3! All are having tremendous seasons.

  2. Gary Lewis says:

Springfield Catholic over St. Paul Lutheran 2-0. Goals by Bowenshulte and Lewis. Both assisted by Entrup.

  3. Kevin says:

I think both Catholic and NCA should be higher in the polls, but I think that also shows how uneven the playing field is with private schools and public schools in soccer.

  4. brian says:

I’m confused by your comment,Catholic and NCA are private are they not? Are you saying that privates are at a disadvantage? Most of the teams ahead of you are also private, what am I missing?

  5. Kevin says:

Brian, I was just saying those 2 are under ranked. I would say they are 2 and 5. How could I be saying private schools are disadvantaged? I believe the Class 1 pole is all privates and most of them deserve to be there, And most of them can beat any class 2 or 3 public school too. I think the private schools have a big advantage. when was the last time a public school won a state championship or even played for it? Look at the numbers of private schools comparied to public, then compared them to state championships or even wins against each other. Thats more of what I was saying. NCA and Catholic are great teams which ever team makes it out of districts has a great shot at the finals. I don’t see either of them being knocked out in the Quarters like they have been the past 3 years.

  6. John says:

no Kennedy in class 1 rankings? any ideas?

  7. Caleb says:

Kevin, Smithville High (class 2) was the first public school in the soccer state championship. This was last year.
