Brandon Moore, M S&T (Rolla 2005) defends against Brian Fishback, Indy Greyhounds (Parkview 2005)
Missouri S&T Miners - 1
Indianapolis Greyhounds - 0
An important win for the Miner’s Friday night at home as senior Corey Bailey (Olathe) pairs with Mario Calderon to ‘make a play’ in the words of Coach Joe Ahearn. In a game that featured a 13-6 shot advantage for the Hounds, the true opportunities were few and far between. That’s when you need some creativity and that’s what Calderon delivered, and Bailey closed the deal.
Much like Thursday’s game between the Chicago Fire and LA Galaxy, when C. Blanco’s back heel flick created a break-away for Rolfe, Calderon created something special for the Miners. As he battled to win a 50/50 ball near the midfield, with his back to the goal he quickly sent a ball up and over the defense. Bailey’s anticipation and run onto the ball was equally critical, allowing him to stay a step ahead of the defense and then calmly slot his shot to the far post for the game-winner. A play you need your seniors to make, and one that will go a long way towards moving the Miner’s back into the GLVC playoffs if they can deliver again on Sunday against St Joseph’s. Go Miner’s!
