Rolla’s Tyler Sinnott defended by Darren Shaw, Parkview
Parkview Vikings - 2
Rolla Bulldogs - 0
Goals in the 27th minute by Tim Griffin and in the 77th minute by Morgan Holt propelled the Parkview Vikings to their second Ozark Conference win Tuesday afternoon. UPDATE - found my game notes!
This was the kind of game I really enjoy, with a pair of well-matched teams that offer a great opportunity to see leadership exhibited. A pair of teams that I would call blue-collar, each led by a forward who garners the majority of the attention.
In this game, the Viking’s Tim Griffin led the way with a pair of plays that showed his individual skill in scoring the game winner and assisting on Morgan Holt’s late goal. The goal came as the Vikings transitioned from a Bulldog attack, with the final pass coming from Jared Moore, while Griffin collected the ball and quickly turned his defenders before slotting a ball to the near post. The assist as he broke down the left side and then into the box before calmly sending a square ball through the 6 yard box to the onrushing Holt who slid at the far post to redirect the ball into the net.
More importantly for the Vikings is their calm under pressure. Every year I am gratified to see players who are growing into their roles and responsibilities. For the Vikings, seeing the work that Darren Shaw and Matt Medley are doing running the midfield, while Dane Knapp sweeps behind them, points to the core every team needs. And that blue-collar comment? Rolla’s best opportunity was cleared off the line by midfielder Holt early in the game.
Rolla will be well-prepared for the playoffs, with a core of seniors leading the way, including Sinnott, but its Andrew Chism and Justin Schubring that will pull the strings, with junior Cody Martin also making a significant impact. Late yellow cards, including to Coach Mike Howard, point to the importance of these Conference games however. A few more opportunities under fire will help forge a young defense in front of senior Stephen Moorkamp and offer more fireworks at a future meeting between these two teams.
Glendale Falcons - 4
Camdenton Lakers - 0
Goals by Devon Newport (2), Alec Martinez and Patrick Baltz. The Falcons record is now 6-0, 2-0 in the Ozark Conference.

Webb City Cardinals - 0
Joplin Eagles - 8
Hillcrest Hornets - 0
Senior Blake Aggus got the game-winner as the Eagles get a District win.

A difficult but gratifying District and Conference win for the Liberators it sounds like. A pair of goals and an assist for sophomore Matt Magana.

West Plains Zizzers - 0
Ben Moore, from Eric Iverson, in the 12th minute made the difference in the Ozark Conference match up
Catholic Fightin’ Irish - 6

Senior Marian Lup got all 3 goals for the Tigers (must be the shoes Marian). Game winner came in the 22nd after Ozark had tied the game in the 18th.
Greenwood Blue Jays - 8
Thomas Jefferson - 1
Kickapoo Chiefs - 5
Lebanon Yellowjackets - 0
The Chiefs got goals from 5 players in the Conference win

Looks Like Catholic is the team to beat in Class 1 this season.
I would focus on defeating the 2-time defending district champs before I proclaim being the team to beat in Class 1.
What’s good Rolla!
New Covenant had 9 out of 11 returning starters from last year. I think that it will be a good game between
Catholic and New Covenant, but I think it’s too early to proclaim Catholic the team to beat in class 1. I do think
that this soccer site is predjudice towards Catholic as they seem to cover their games and take more pictures of them than New Covenant the 2-time defending champions.
I ‘m not a catholic fan at all!!! and I don’t think this site is predjudice towards them. I was just looking over all of your (district 6) stats. If I was cheering for any team it would be NCA. I’m just from one of those small towns in central MO (district 5) looking at what we were up against. I watched NCA in Lebanon last fall. And they were and still are a great team. I would love to see NCA there again this fall, well aqually I’d perfer Laquey but don’t think that will happen. But I’m just another soccer fan just saying what I thought.
In Steve’s defense, he never said that Catholic was the team to beat but their opportuntiies at district. I don’t think this early in the year that any team is looking past any team - that is why we all the play the game.
Don’t count out Greenwood just yet. Greenwood is returning 9 starters and got 3rd place in the Christian County Tournament this weekend with their only loss coming to class 3 Kickapoo. The blue jays are generating more and more chances on offense and the defense is starting to come together. Our district will indeed be tough and it will be exciting soccer come the end of October and the beginning of November. Must I remind everyone, Greenwood was the last team from our district to go to the final four.
Also Steve, many Greenwood followers want to know why you are a member of the Catholic created facebook group, Greenwood Soccer Sucks. I would appreciate your response to why you joined the group.
For disclosure purposes, I am a Catholic dad. I just love high school athletics. This passion is what is missing in professional sports. I can guarantee nobody at Catholic is looking past anyone on their schedule or in their district. We respect every team on our schedule and know that on any given day, anyone can win. All these kids from every school work extremely hard to represent their peers, parents, and coaches. I hope we as parents can work equally hard to represent our kids. As for this “Greenwood Soccer Sucks” Facebook page….if this was generated by a Catholic supporter, I am embarrassed for our school and embarrassed for the individual that originated it. There is no place for that kind of misguided slanderous junk in High School Athletics. We all need to be better than that.
NCA already beat Greenwood 3-0, right?
While I am not a part of this rivalry, I look forward to the match on Saturday between Catholic and Greenwood (Varsity at 7:00, location: LCYS). Let’s settle this on the field boys.
Greenwood Soccer Dad = Greenwood senior Pat Connor
Bolivar 4, Marshfield 2. Goals for Bolivar - Dakota Smith, Matt Magana (2), and Bradley Stillwagon
Gary,
Does this mean I should take down the “I hate Joe Kofron” website?
For disclosure purposes I am a Greenwood soccer dad, and I don’t really hate Joe, but that could change depending on Saturday.
I have to agree with most of the comments made by Soccer Fan. I do disagree with the statement that this website is prejudiced toward Springfield Catholic. The only significant write-up about Catholic has been the game between Catholic and Waynesville. Springfield Catholic defeated Pembrook Hill 2-1 at Pembrook Hill and there was no writeup about it. Pembrook Hill placed 2nd last year in the Class 1 tournament.
I agree with Pat thats why I picked Catholic mostly any class 1 team that can get a win against Pembrook has something good going. With Pembrook gone and Whitfield and Burroughs in the same district the team coming out of District 5 or 6 has a great shoot be in the finals with Whitfield. Its time one of us finally win a state championship!!
Greenwood Soccer Dad, err, Pat Connor, I dont believe I am part of a Facebook called Greenwood Soccer Sucks. If that was directed to another Steve, my apologizes but as far as I know Im the only Steve here other than Ole and I know he wouldnt be in that group.
As for Catholic respecting this district Gary, Ill take the words I heard straight from players mouths at last years districts. But again, we already know who won there.
