The Frank Dinka Developmental College Scholarship

Frank DinkaOn what would have been his 83rd birthday today, I’d happy to announce that SGFsoccer.com is establishing the “Frank Dinka Developmental College Scholarship” in conjunction with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

UPDATE – the establishment of the Missouri State athletic scholarship in honor of Dr Dinka has taken to place of this effort. Please contact Missouri State about donating to the scholarship that has been established there.

Frank, who is pictured on the left, is the person I consider The Godfather of soccer in the Ozarks. He founded the SMSU Club Soccer team in 1967 that would ultimately become an NCAA Division I team in 1981 and is the team we root on now. Frank was the Head Coach in those early years and led the team from 1981-1986.

Frank didn’t limit his efforts to the campus. In 1977 he teamed with the folks at the YMCA to help establish the earliest Youth programs here in town, acting as the Coaching Director and recruiting players from his club team and the International Student Organization on campus, including Jan Stahle, to provide coaching on any piece of grass they could find around town.

There are a number of details to be worked out but I didn’t want Frank’s birthday to pass without mention of the plans. The first step will be raising $10,000 for the endowment of the scholarship, which then pays out annually from the interest on the account.

I’m currently completing the paperwork which includes defining the criteria for the scholarship as well as recruiting a few individuals that would sit on the Board to determine the recipient. Anyone with an interest in working with me on this effort, contact me and I’ll be happy to share with you details of the plan.

And for those High School seniors who are currently exploring financing options, don’t forget to include the CFO Scholarship programs in your search effort.
