The Bears open their home schedule this weekend with a pair of games and three teams visiting. MVC foe Drake will be here along with the Centenary Gents and the Cleveland State Vikings. Here’s the schedule of games that will be played at Plaster Stadium.
Friday 5:00 pm – Centenary vs Drake @ MSU
Friday 7:15 pm – MSU hosts Cleveland State
Saturday 5:00 pm – 17:00 Cleveland State vs Drake @ MSU
Saturday 7:15 pm – MSU hosts Centenary
The Vikings, who finished 3-12-3 last season, have a young roster with nine starters returning from last season. Scoring was an issue, with only 12 goals scored last season. Junior Slava Ubiparipovic, a Xavier transfer, will be the key along with freshman Alfred Majer and junior Jeff Baker. Anthony Rucci is the only senior and he mans the midfield for CSU, who lost a pair of games in CA last weekend to open their season. The Vikings are part of the Horizon League which includes UI-Chicago.
The Gents will be playing their first game of the season, after winning preseason contests against Harding and UT-Tyler. The Bears beat Centenary 4-1 in their home opener last season. Centenary competes in the Summit League, along with Western Illinois and UMKC among others.
Drake comes into this weekend undefeated after shutting out UW-Milwaukee and SIU Edwardsville, 2-0. Leading the offensive charge for the Bulldogs is Hunter Kennedy, who has scored two goals. Michael Drozd has started both games between the posts for Drake and has eight saves and two shutouts. Picked 4th in the MVC preseason poll, the Bulldogs were just ranked #6 in the Regional poll.
