Olympic Gold at Stake Friday – Argentina vs Nigeria

August 21, 2008 by Ole · 3 Comments

The Olympics effectively end for me Friday evening with the Gold medal game between Nigeria and Argentina so click on the photo above (Lars Baron/Bongarts/Getty Images) for some more beauties from the opening ceremonies like this one. And of course, if you want more of the ‘feel good’ stories that the Olympics seems made for, visit the Wall Street Journal’s Daily Fix blog, they’ve had me blubbering for the past ten days.

What about the soccer game? Here are some highlights I’ve found on the web

SHANGHAI, China (AP) – The players that won Nigeria its first gold medal in soccer at the Atlanta Games have become legends in their homeland. It turns out the kids that were watching them on television in 1996 aren’t too shabby either.

BEIJING (AP) – After it was all over, Lionel Messi was doing the celebrating and Ronaldinho was trying to figure out what went wrong. Argentina routed Brazil 3-0 Tuesday to reach its second straight Olympic final, putting an end to Ronaldinho’s hopes of winning his nation’s first gold medal in soccer.

Are you picking a winner? I’ll be at Coester’s enjoying the game which kicks off at 10 pm Friday night (LIVE) (AFTER the MSU Bears game against Arkansas at 7:00 pm). Feel free to join me and taunt me about my prognosticating skills. BTW, I thought Brazil was a better team but the US played the entire 90 to get it to OT and seeing Carli Lloyd get the game-winner was sweet.

Its unfortunate the Nigerian team has been seen as the underdog in the forth coming match between nigeria and argentina. Argentina should expect nothing but failure against the same team that preventeew theo from clinching hold in about 12 years. Up nigeria!
