Women’s Olympic Final Features USA vs Brazil Thursday

Maybe the photo gives you a clue as to whom I’m picking to win the Gold Medal match. The only remaining question is whether or not the US will score a goal. Game time is 8:00 am and it’s being broadcast live on USA Network channel.
The player pictured is Formiga, I’ll point you to From A Left Wing and Jennifer Doyle’s commentary on Brazil’s decisive 4-1 win over the World Cup champion German squad in the semifinal Monday. Du Nord’s correspondent seems to be counting on the Cinderella factor for the US.
From US Soccer: The gold medal match is a repeat of the 2004 Athens final, in which the U.S. won, 2-1, in overtime on a header from Abby Wambach. A dramatic affair, the match is not only remembered for the gold medal victory, but also as the last world championship event for some of the U.S. veterans, including Julie Foudy, Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain and Joy Fawcett.
Update – I have to admit that I like this story and the attitude adjustment it represents.

What a great game the US had today. I am so glad that Steve’s prediction was wrong!
Glad the US won and Steve’s prediction was off the mark.
