Missed this announcement back in late May but it’s worth posting now. From the St Louis Post-Dispatch:
In 1980, St. Mary’s High senior Keith Meyer was honored by Parade magazine as its high school boys player of the year. This year’s All-America team, which will be featured in the Parade Magazine in the Sunday Post-Dispatch, will include two area standouts — SLUH’s Tommy Meyer and DeSmet’s Will Bruin. Tommy, (who is) Keith’s son, was also named to the Parade team last year.
Meyer, who stands 6 feet 2 and weighs 170 pounds, will begin his collegiate career in the fall at Indiana University, his father’s alma mater. Keith Meyer, also a defender, helped the Hoosiers capture their first two national championships in 1982 and 1983.
Will Bruin (pictured in a game against DeSmet October 13th 2007), a 6-foot-2, 195-pound striker, was a two-time All-Metro selection who had 29 goals and 16 assists last fall as a senior, completing his Spartans career with 103 goals and 39 assists. He will also attend and play at IU.
They’ll be joined by Graham Basecke, Glendale Falcons/Springfield SC, in the Fall of 2009.
And who can name Springfield’s only Parade All-American soccer player?
