As I write this, I’m contemplating what a beautiful day it is and how much I’m looking forward to a short road trip. I’m headed to Bella Vista Arkansas this afternoon, just north of Bentonville and home of the Northwest Arkansas Lightning. I’m headed down to document (and cheer on) the Springfield SC U23’s as they open the Ozarks Challenge Cup, a home-and-away series they are playing against the NWA Lightning. The return game is Wednesday July 23rd and will be played at Cooper Soccer Complex, with total goals the determining factor in who will hold the hardware this first year.
Closer to home, the Men’s Amateur League are playing their 3rd place and Championship games today at Lake Country Soccer, at the Jan Stahle Field #10. The 3rd place game is at 12:30 pm while Union Latina will play against Tierra Nueva in the Championship match. Hat tip to Jesus Zuniga and Jonothon Marquez for the heads up on the games since there is nothing on the LCS website indicating the games were being played. Next time I need more than 24 hours notice though fella’s, I would have enjoyed being there for the game.
When you’re ready to come inside for a cold beverage and some R&R out of the sun, the US Women’s National Team is playing Brazil today at 3:00 pm. The game is being played in Colorado and is being broadcast live on ESPN. Something I didn’t realize is that Brazil is only 2-20-2 against the US, I guess that win over the US and Brianna Scurry in the World Cup was even worse than I realized. There’s a second game against Brazil scheduled for Wednesday evening at 9:00 pm. I plan on checking it out at Coester’s since it’s the final warmup prior to the Olympics. Come out for a nightcap and join us for that one!
PS - the St Louis Post-Dispatch has a nice story on Missouri’s representative on the Women’s National team, Lori Chalupny.
