The Missouri State Cup tournament wrapped up last weekend with the U18 and U19 age groups. It’s not the same tournament it was when I moved here in 2002 and a week later spent a week in Columbia with almost 200 teams competing to represent the state. Unfortunately MYSA has chosen to narrow the field, dramatically, by charging $600 to enter while only guaranteeing a single game. Even the Regional Tournament offers group play but your leadership at MYSA feels that is not in the best interest of their members.
The State will be well represented at Regional but I would prefer to see the former model, which creates a great environment and offers the highest participation levels, returned. Until you the members make your voices heard, we’ll have to live with this model it appears. If you’d like to learn more or offer feedback, contact Southern District Commissioner Kelly Ross at Lake Country Soccer.
Congratulation to the 2008 State Cup Winners. The Springfield Soccer Club earned their second straight title while Chealsey Russell (Kickapoo) earned her 5th title with her U18 St Louis SC Mller teammates.

At its May 31st State Board Meeting, the MYSA board of directors did make some minor changes for the upcoming 2009 State Cup tournament. Although the 2009 tournament will remain a single elimination event, the entry fee will be somewhere between $600-$700. The dates have been changed to June 6-14, 2009. The location of the 2009 has not yet been determined.
As Southern District Commissioner, I am more than happy to take any input, thoughts and opinions from those teams or clubs which may be interested in participating in the 2009 tournament related to the current single elimination format versus other formats which are currently in use by any of our surrounding 13 midwest region 2 partner state associations.
There is an upcoming MYSA State Board meeting next month and another in August. There are a few proposals currently on the table regarding the format and possible dates for the 2010 state cup. Relevant suggestions should be emailed to me at the earliest opportunity so that I have a well rounded cross section of feedback from the southern district membership.
For the record, as Southern District Commissioner, I was opposed to the date changes for the 2009 tournament.
Suggestions can be emailed to my immediate attention; kelly@lakecountrysoccer.org.
