KC Brass - 3
Springfield Demize - 1
The good news? The hometown boys broke into the scoring column in the first half, tying the game in the 40th minute providing some positive momentum before the break. The goal, scored by Nebjosa Opacic on a header in close, was the first of the season in three games.
The bad news? Despite admonitions to avoid an early goal in the pre-game discussions, the Brass’ Austin Williams took advantage of a ball over the top of the defense to run onto the ball and lift it from outside the box over the onrushing goalkeeper in the 5th minute. The Brass capitalized at the start of the second half as well, getting what turned out to be the game-winner from x in the 49th minute. The final goal came late, as the Demize were caught up attempting to tie the game.
The primary reason the game was close was the stellar work of goalkeeper Chris Hanlon, who appears to be in mid-season form unlike the rest of his teammates. In the words of Brass Coach J (or was it L, his twin) Roblee, Chris can always be expected to come up with several remarkable saves during the course of a game, and this one was no different.
