Nixa Soccer Club Annual Summer Camps

PRESS RELEASE

Nixa, Missouri – The Nixa Soccer Club (NSC) will be hosting its fourth annual summer soccer camps on June 9-12 and June 16-19 at the Nixa Community Center soccer fields.

The first NSC soccer camp, running from June 9-12, will be for both boys and girls, ages 6-10. Sessions will run from 5:45 – 7:30 p.m. each evening.

The second NSC soccer camp will run from June 16-19, again for both boys and girls, ages 11-15. Sessions will run from 5:45 – 7:45 p.m. each evening.

“The camp was divided into two sessions this summer to provide a better coach to camper ratio,” stated Tim Sterling, president of the Nixa Soccer Club. Sterling said sessions will be lead by licensed/certified high school and competitive club coaches, with additional support provided by local high school and college players.

“The camp will focus on individual skill development, age appropriate tactical play, small sided games and scrimmages. Most of all we will have fun while becoming better players,” said Sterling, who also coaches several NSC teams. Prizes will be awarded to contest and game winners. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt, if they register no later than June 1st.

The cost will be $45 dollars for current NSC members and $55 for non-members if paid by May 31, 2008. Registering on or after June 1 will result in members paying $55 and $65 non-members. A discount is available for multiple siblings with each additional sibling paying only $35; a savings of $20 per person.

“The camp strives to provide quality player development in a fun, but focused manner, while at an affordable price. If a young player is considering competitive soccer, this is an excellent opportunity to train with club players and coaches,” said Sterling.

Sterling went on to say, “There will be opportunities for each player to train with different high caliber coaches with different styles and backgrounds. If the player is a current club player, the camp will provide an opportunity to play with other competitive players in a developmental setting.”

The Nixa Soccer Club is a not for profit organization that promotes the development of competitive youth soccer players and coaches. The NSC depends solely upon player dues and generous donations to operate.

The Nixa Soccer Club got its start in 2004 as a joint activity between Sterling and Tom Davidson, former soccer coach of Kickapoo Chiefs and most recently named head soccer coach for Ozark Tigers. Both coaches realized the synergy of a multiple team format in the Nixa community would allow players to develop in the competitive ranks. The goal continues to be to develop Nixa pre-high school soccer players to become competitive with Springfield and other regional teams.

Current board of directors include: Tim Sterling, Toby Powley, Evan Palmer, Jeff King, and Shawn Harris, along with an at large community member to be identified. The club seeks to provide an outlet for the competitive youth soccer player in the Nixa Community.

In the past, younger Nixa players had to practice and play for Springfield clubs if they wished to play competitively. Nixa Soccer Club maintains practice facilities and provides coaches for five youth teams. The long term goal is to provide a team for each age group of boys and girls from 9 through 14, however, additional knowledgeable enthusiastic coaches are needed for this to occur.

In addition to the summer camps, the NSC offers skill builder sessions for players, and coaching development seminars.
