This Week in Springfield Soccer

Two weeks of regular season play is all that remains prior to the start of Districts. The Class 1 seeding discussions are on Wednesday and I’m guessing the Class 2 meetings won’t be too far behind either meaning there are limited opportunities remaining to affect the seeding.

For Class 2, District 12 the key game is tonight at Kickapoo. The Ozark Tigers visit and control their destiny. This game will determine the top 3 seeds since the Tigers defeated Joplin 2-0 two weeks ago while the Chiefs lost to the Eagles 0-1 the very next evening. The Parkview Vikings will likely be the #4 seed.

For Class 2, District 11 the key game is tomorrow’s game at Rolla. Glendale visits to face their traditional rival and the result will determine the #2 seed. With the Top 4 teams in the Ozark Conference all part of District 11, the goal is to avoid Waynesville until the final by earning the second seed. Lebanon visits Glendale on Thursday, which will be another good opportunity to get a preview of the District events.

Class 1 District 12 appears to have determined the top 2 seeds with Bolivar’s results this weekend at the Willard Tournament. Springfield Catholic will be #1 and the Liberators are a likely #2. We’ll get a preview of that game on Thursday this week when the Liberators visit. They’ll also visit Greenwood tonight as well as host Ozark on Tuesday which will be a good measuring stick for them prior to the game Thursday. Greenwood and Willard, McAuley and West Plains will battle to avoid Catholic in the seedings discussions in District 12.

Tuesday the Champions League will determine the first Finalist. Manchester United hosts Barcelona in the second leg. On Wednesday it’s Chelsea versus Liverpool to determine the other finalist. Both games are at 1:30 pm on ESPN2 and we’ll have a nice crowd at Coester’s for both of them. Come cheer your favorite!
