The Camdenton Lady Laker soccer team earned second place in the 10th Annual Moberly Spartans Tournament over the weekend by beating Kirskville 4-0 in the first round, Hannibal 5-4 in the second round and then losing to the host team 3-0 in the championship match.
Senior forward Meg Manzer scored six goals in the tournament with back-to-back hat tricks including a breakaway game winner against Hannibal with less than three minutes left in the contest. Camdenton trailed 2-0 to Hannibal early in the first half before Manzer scored two quick goals creating a 2-2 tie at the half. Hannibal scored 30 seconds into the second half off a Camdenton own goal as a defender tried to clear a ball out from inside the goalie box.
The championship match was played soon after Camdenton’s come-from-behind win over Hannibal and the Lady Lakers never found a rhythm offensively. Though the match was tied 0-0 at the half, Moberly soon overtook Camdenton and took a 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the second half. The Lady Lakers pushed people up and switched formations which allowed Moberly’s speed to take over the match on transition as the Lady Spartans got two more goals during the second half.
Four Camdenton players made the All-Tournament Team: Seniors Meg Manzer and Morgan Folks, junior Stephanie Kirvan and freshman Kali Kuse.
