The Springfield Demize held a raucous Spring Exhibition match against the Tony Glavin-led St Louis Lions on Saturday evening at the Cooper Soccer Complex. The game score was 4-2 in favor of the Demize when I left around 7:30pm when my camera batteries finally expired after attending four games Saturday. Attendance was bolstered by a strong contingent of Glavin SC fans in town for the tournament this weekend. The game was also a final tryout session for a number of players, so we’ll know more about the final make up of the team soon. The photo is a picture of MSU student Eduardo Conde, scoring the 4th goal on a header from a corner kick.
There were four games at Drury Saturday afternoon. The William Jewell Cardinal’s women’s team visited, featuring Katie Brooks (Parkview 2005) in her new role as attacking midfielder. That’s her being defended by Chloe Moushey. It was also an opportunity for new recruit Megan Garrad (Glendale 2008) to visit with the team.
Following the women’s game, the Cardinal Men’s team played a pair of games, facing the Drury Panthers and then the Missouri Southern Lions. The Lion’s, which feature a pair of former Southwest All-Stars in Jesse Clevenger (College Heights 2006) and Nate Evans (Cassville 2007), then took on the Panthers. The two games I caught were active, almost heated, until cooler heads prevailed and the players settled down to show some fine soccer. It was good to see Tyson Bramley again, and still uninjured.
Missouri Southern will host the Avila Eagles on Tuesday evening. Avila includes Nixa graduate, and Springfield Demize player Danny Curro, and a new head Coach in Chris Clements, who moves over from the University of Central Missouri Mules.
