Champions Challenge Tournament at Lake Country Soccer

Champions ChallengeThe 2008 Greater Springfield Area Sports Commission Champions Challenge youth soccer tournament is Saturday and Sunday at the Cooper Family Sports Complex.

One hundred forty-four teams from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma will participate in this year’s event. It will be the largest single-weekend event Lake Country has hosted in the past several years. Age ranges for participating teams include Under-10 through U14 girls and U9 to U16 boys.

An added feature of this year’s tournament includes three US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League games featuring teams from Minnesota (Bangu Tsunami 90/91 Blue), Michigan (Vardar) and the Springfield Soccer Club in the U17 boys’ premier division. The Springfield SC team, U16 Missouri State Champions, will play at 9:00 am on Saturday against Michigan Vardar and at 4:00 pm Saturday against Bangu Tsunami (MN). This will be your only chance to see the team in Springfield. Wouldn’t it be great to have several hundred folks cheering them on against the interlopers! If you’re a soccer fan, you need to see this team. The games will be played on Field #10 which is part of the North Fields, closest to Pythian Road West of Cooper Tennis Complex. UPDATE - MRL games have been moved to Plaster Stadium!

Tournament headquarters is Lake Country Soccer, indoor facility, more commonly known as the SoccerDome, 2334 E. Pythian Drive.
