Binghamton University has promoted assistant women’s soccer coach Sarah McClellan to head coach, the school announced Friday.
After two years as BU’s top assistant, McClellan takes over a team that advanced to the America East semifinals last fall and finished with a 3-12-4 record. She replaces Jeff Leightman, who resigned this week to accept a position at San Jose State.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Maryland, McClellan came to Binghamton from Drury University, where she served two years as the assistant coach. McClellan also was the head coach of the Maryland Pride, a member of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
