PRESS RELEASE
The Springfield Soccer Club is pleased to announce that Cory Carr will receive the Missouri Youth Soccer Association Boys Competitive Coach of the Year Award for 2008 at the MYSA AGM in February. Cory was selected from a deep pool of qualified candidates and was chosen for his commitment to the qualities that MYSA looks for when handing out this award. MYSA recognizes that coaching is more than teaching tactics and technique; it is also about teaching life lessons off of the field. Employed full-time by Integrity Home Health Care and a husband and father, Cory has to balance his life in order to give his players what they demand and deserve.
A native of Houston, Texas Cory attended Klein High School where he competed in soccer for the nationally recognized Bearkats. His club soccer playing skills were developed by the Houston Texans and he continued his soccer career at Missouri State University (then SMS) from 1993-1996. Upon graduation from Missouri State University, Cory attended Southwest Baptist University and began his coaching career helping a number of local club teams and high school programs, before settling in with the Springfield Soccer Club.
“One of Cory’s biggest strengths as a coach is that he has paid his dues.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations for the Springfield Soccer Club. “So many people that get involved in coaching want it all right away, without learning from experience. Cory is the opposite, constantly learning and working outside of his comfort zone which has made him a better coach today than he was yesterday.”
Cory currently serves as a Staff Coach with the Springfield Soccer Club where he is the head coach of
the U17 team and assists with the U15 and U18 Boys teams.
2007 saw a significant achievement for the Springfield Soccer Club as the 90/91 team (current U17 team) captured the first ever MYSA State Cup Championship for a team from Southwest Missouri. Cory has been coaching the team since they were U13, constantly building them one season at a time into a top 10 ranked team in the nation.
The Springfield Soccer Club is very proud of Cory Carr receiving the MYSA Boys Competitive Coach of the Year Award because of what it stands for both on and off the field.
Editors note - Cory and his wife welcomed their first child very recently (mid December?). It has been a very good year for this young man, with this award offering the icing on a very tasty cake. Well done Cory!

Evan and I (and all the Garrads for that matter) congratulate Cory. We really enjoyed having Cory as a coach, mentor and friend, he goes about his business quietly without fuss and leads by example. Well done Cory, it’s great that you and the club are getting the recognition that all the hard work deserves.
Congratulations, Cory. This honor is very well deserved. What you have done for soccer in the Springfield community over the years has been remarkable.
